I was very unhappy when mike let him hit in that situation, considering how he looked through the first 5 innings (and didn't even get through the 6th after) and how good our bench has been in pinch hitting situations. Worked out though, but would have been better odds.for him to hit a weak grounder for an inning ending double play.

Bullpen continues to impress

That's fair. I think in this situation Matheny was hoping to show some confidence in a guy who has been struggling. Keeping him in there to bat was more a gesture to Waino that he had confidence in him to last the 6th. It was not the best statistical move but the gamble paid off. Waino just needs a few breaks to get into a groove.

What he needs to do is figure out what's wrong with his mechanics. He's leaving way too many balls up. He's already getting some breaks, like goldschmidt lining into an inning ending double play because Segura inexplicably broke for home with the infield in and couldn't get back to 3rd. He still left the ball up for the next several innings and gave up 4 runs. He's fighting it right now, it's kind of telling that his only win is a 5.1 inning 4 earned run outing. Hopefully he figures it out quick. Get Carp in there to watch a bullpen or something

Alex Reyes will be done with his suspension and start pitching at triple-A in mid May. Hypothetically, if he shows that he is ready for the big leagues (like most people within the organization expect) and Wainwright never gets right then do you let Reyes start and move Waino to the bullpen? This would be around late July/August so it would give plenty of time for Waino to fix his problems, and if they aren't fixed by that time then they most likely won't get fixed at all.

Who's excited for the next 5 years of Mike Leake?

Maybe, but I don't think mediocre teams destroy bad teams they way we have. Eventually that play should translate against good teams.

They're 1-8 against teams with winning records, and they have only scored more than 1 run three times. It's not good. We'll be around .500 this year IMO

That's only 3 series, extremely small sample size. And those 3 teams are world series contenders. But outside of those 3 series, their run differential is +57! A .500 ball club wouldn't do that.

I think the truth lies in the middle. We're better than our 1-8 record against good teams indicates. The hot starts by chi and Pitt just magnify the fact that we have started slow. At some point thy will each hit a skid, every team does every year. We really just need our offense to gain some consistency, and Waino and Leake need to get going. Can we get everything figured out in time to contend for the division, or will we be fighting for a wildcard is the question IMO.

Also, anyone heard anything about the allegations against CMart? He had to go to court in florida on Friday. Accused of some serious stuff. I'm hopeful that it's just a woman trying to get paid, but I've heard some stories in the past that don't make it seem too far fetched. Read the same link. I hope this isn't anything serious

MLB decided not to investigate.

This team has now hit 40 homeruns through 26 games. It took 50 games to get to that 40 mark last year.

But it's still the same story. Amazing against bad teams and terrible against good teams. Although, the Phillies have had good pitching to start the season.

Nice 9th innings rally last night. Maybe we can build some momentum from that.

I personally will live and die by Waino. He is past his prime but he is the team leader. He will fix his problems because that is how he is wired. Its still early, Reyes can come in and help later in the year (hopefully). I personally have tempered expectations for Reyes this year. He's electric, the time I saw him in Peoria last season he just dominated the game. We need that but he will have to adjust to the MLB learning curve. In due time, Reyes/Wacha/CMart will be our 3 headed monster.

The starting pitching has a frustrating case of "one bad inning-itis". They can look great in the other innings, but then they give up 3+ runs just like that.

This is a team that will get better as the season goes on. Hopefully they can stay in contention early in the season for when they do put it together

Let's hope. The results vs the Pirates, Cubs and Nationals are pretty disappointing so far. Not sure we can contend for anything without winning a few games against those better teams.
