Signed with them in the fall when Chin was there. Asked out in April. Connect dots.

Ah, I was just skimming the Google results and the abbreviated blurb confused me. I see it was referencing the decommit. My bad... I've seen one of his tapes but it wasn't all that impressive. But what do I know? :noidea:

He doesn't look bad at all, seems very athletic and appears to run the court well. Not a terrible looking shot either. Maybe not quite the size we would like but I am definitely ok with him

6'9" is a pretty respectable height. I'd still prefer transfer bigs but I dont know if theres any more out there we are looking at.

What a difference some time can make...first clip for sure get him if we can, this clip, looks very methodical...obvious he just started playing as a freshmen, the skill level change is noticeable and dare I say, limitless it seems for the kid.

I would be perfectly fine as a fan seeing mobile 6'8-6'9 players all day for use versus some of the past "true" 5 players or even other "true" 5 players in the big ten...would rather have athletes.

Why would you rather have transfer bigs just curious ? ? ?

Because Underwood, Antigua and co. started late in the game for 2017. Grad transfers only eat a scholarship for 1 year and hopefully our coaching staff can make inroads with higher rated players starting in 2018.

Much prefer freshmen over transfers. You build a program with freshmen whom you can develop.

Eboigbodin's highlight tape looks promising. Definitely happy with rangy 6'9 athletes who can move. Sims looks great obviously.

I think we have already seen, If you aren't good enough for what the staff wants you wont be sticking around. Even if we get the kid from UIC I would be shocked if we don't have 4 rides in 18. Unless there is some truth to the Sims stuff

Makes sense presuming we will get higher rated players at that point. But we have so many open roster spots at this point - much prefer to start filling them with quality freshman prospects and start developing team chemistry. Unless we have so many 2018 high level recruits beating down our doors and we're sure we need to leave room for them, better to start developing the program now and see what happens with those guys later. Getting Eboigbodin isn't going to deter a high level 2018 big from coming, and it'll improve our program because in 2018 Eboigbodin will have a year of experience in the program instead of a one year stop gap who is gone.

I agree and you have to get post defense somewhere. I don't think they'd throw away a scholarship unless they thought he could contribute. They should know him very well given Chin recruited him to UIC. Oh and I like big soccer players ever since the Dream. Let's hope he doesn't have Nanna hands, but even if he does, I'd take 4 years of Egwu with this backcourt.

Sims is a beast, very skilled for his size, can handle and pass like a guard. When I saw him play he was kind of low energy and slipped out of the game a bit, but he's a great player who I would take 10 out of 10 times

^^ Exactly that. And also because the guys remaining in 2017 are mid-major prospects.

I think with 4 open schollys you take what you can get. I'd like to see two bigs and would like a grad/freshman combo.

Grad transfers come college ready from a physical standpoint and have already learned how to play defense without fouling etc.

True Freshman big men need time to learn the pace, physicality and how games are called. It's a significant learning curve that only the most talented make early on as a freshman.

We were all just saying what a learning curve Tilmon would have, I can't imagine a UIC recruit coming to the Big Ten and having an impact as a true freshman, but I hope I'm wrong

Jericho Sims? Signed with Texas? How would he get out of his NLOI?
I have no idea how he would get out. Ask & you shall receive? College basketball is a mess with these LOIs and decommits. I do know that Illinois needs at least 2 more bigs.

What do you know about this dude. I have never heard of him. Seems like a stretch. Been recruited by UIC, now all of a sudden he is a BIG TEN possibility?

There is a little on the recruiting thread about him
