Look at the Bracket Matrix. KSU is a 9-10, we're on the outside looking in.

Kansas St. remaining schedule:

01-28 at Tennessee
02-01 TCU
02-04 at Baylor
02-06 Kansas
02-11 at West Virginia
02-15 Iowa St.
02-18 at Texas
02-22 Oklahoma St.
02-25 at Oklahoma
03-01 at TCU
03-04 Texas Tech

That's a tough road. They have a chance to get some really good wins but could also get wiped out.

We'll see

Huh??

If he is fired, he will be fired for failing to win, failing to keep his players out of trouble, failing to recruit a legit point guard, and failing to fill State Farm Center.....

How is that not a punishment for past failures?

I think the point he was trying to make was that you don't fire a coach for past failures alone. You fire a coach because those past failures are indicative of likely future outcomes. If you failed in the past but were likely to be successful moving forward, then you would not fire the coach.

4 of 5 losses at Kansas St. Have been by a total of 9 points. Weber doesn't get blown out. A much better coach than Groce. If I remember right Weber had div. 1 offers days after we let him go. I have to admit I wanted Weber gone also. I just didn't expect the horrible outcome.

His last year at Illinois there were multiple double digit losses including 16 by UNLV and 23 at Nebraska

Bingo. The past and present inform your expectations for the future, but it's all about the future.

I get the need to compare our last 2 coaches, but it doesn't change the fact that Weber needed to go and now so does Groce.

If there is any way to do it, I suspect the first call would be checking in on Billy Donovan. Depending on how he's doing at the time, maybe Pitino Jr.

Wow, quite a big spread between those two.

With Donovan, you call him only if you want to give him a good laugh. First, he ain't quitting. Not in year two of a 5yr/$30MM deal. And with the Thunder in contention, he ain't getting fired. So can we all agree he's not an option?

And Pitino Jr.? Yeah, I don't think so. Even if a sitting B1G coach could take another B1G job, I think Pitino's last two full seasons at Minny have been less than inspiring.

The OP was talking about the UL job should Pitino retire in a year or two.

We used to be the program with the most NCAAT wins without a title. Oklahoma passed us last year.

So, somehow, by losing more, our historical failures have been diminished... or something. Not good, however you slice it.

Bigger concern is not that somebody has surpassed us, but rather that most of those wins to reach that dubious distinction came a long time ago, not in the last 10-12 years.

I've probably seen just about half of the pages in this thread so I have a question... he's in his first year tab Vandy and I don't see him leaving, but I love what's Bryce Drew did at Valpo. Has his name been mentioned already? Probably a big buyout if he's in his first year.

Okay I should do some research first. Bryce Drew is at 2.7M for six years... probably un-attainable. Oh well. Wish we would've snagged him last year.

You're better than that. Gotta explain how it's incorrect

Ok boys just check d score at penn state down 2o at halftime. Time for change, lousy defense no hustle and worst pg in big ten holds ball for 30 secounds and then shots and you know the rest of the story. Oh absolutely the worst sub patterns possible,

Unfortunately one of them has to play. Neither Abrams or Tate are playing well but we don't have other options. Same reason Thorne is getting playing time at center. Are so called depth doesn't exist because of under performing seniors.

Agree on all of the above. All of those who want Groce gone need to re-read Frazier's tweet from about a month ago. From everything I've seen, he feels like Lucas who can also score the ball.

Do we really want to take a chance at starting all over trying to find a 2 PG combo like we're going to have next year?

If that is the consequence, yes.

We HAVE to. You cannot keep Groce *if* you feel like he's the wrong coach. The right coach will be able to keep some of the commits committed, and seeing a strong coach coaching lesser players up would honestly be a joy for me at this point. I'm OK with anything, as long as the coach is a really strong coach and a solid recruiter.

The people that are wanting to keep Groce just because of this 1 recruiting class are the ones that need to re-think things. I want Frazier here, but not with Groce running the show. Someone that is dumb enough to play Tate/Abrams/Thorne as much as he has obviously just doesn't get it. He took Lucas out 3 1/2 mins into the game when he didn't really do anything "wrong". A player like Lucas doesn't need rest after 3 1/2 minutes, and the backup options are awful. A coach that is still trying to figure things out going into February is completely hopeless imo.

We need guards that can create so badly. I wish we could get Frazier, Smith and Lucas all 3 and then we could compete at a high level , We simply do not have guys that can create for themselves or teammates. I would love to keep Groce and get those players. I don't want to give up on Groce and start over right when the players are finally coming . I would make him change his staff

Why did it take him 5 years to finally get his players?

A new coach can get players to replace those 2 if needed. It's not like they are 5 star recruits, neither one is consensus top 100.
