MLB Hot Stove: Stanton reportedly won't waive no-trade clause for Cardinals, Red Sox. http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIw8u6J8jY

Well, if true, better to find out now and move on. Unless, this is "just a preference" vs. "I won't do it". The article seemed to back off, stating that there was some potential flexibility. Regardless, the Cards do need a legitimate big bat, the others won't cost as much money, nor as many prospects.

I'm going to double down on the Dodgers in the Stanton Sweepstakes.

I think the Cards want to deal prospects (Avoid some Rule 5 issues) and have Miami eat some of the $$$$.

I predict the Dodgers take on all the salary and give minimal value in Puig to Miami.

I hope I'm wrong and the Dodgers refuse to take all of his contract. In that case, Cardinals have a lot of prospects. I just think Miami wants the biggest salary dump.

Apparently the LA Times is saying there is "little momentum" by the Dodgers for Stanton:

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/...stanton-to-lad-trade?ls=roto:MIA:topheadlines

I also read somewhere that contrary to one report, Stanton is "still "open" to considering any team that might work a trade for him.

I can't think of any stakes besides internet dollars but I'll give you $1million internet dollars if the Dodgers end up trading for Stanton and $100million if it's Puig. The Dodgers have a stable to good, young, cheap outfielders, Stanton's deal would end up costing them more than any other team (luxury tax), and Puig is the exact opposite of what the Marlins are looking for in a trade (he's under contract for 1 year, what good does that do for Miami?).

It's going to be the Cardinals.

IF he goes anywhere.

it seems logical that if stanton wants to go to the dodgers and we have the low payroll prospects, we can work a deal giving up a couple pitchers and an outfielder (grichuk) to miami for yelich and logan forsythe. dodgers take stanton and his contract, everybody wins. (maybe we have to eat Gordon or Prado's contract?)

stanton is a LA kid ...

oh, and i'm all in for Chris Archer. Rays are moving him so they dont have to pay him.
His contract is team friendly. signed in 2014 for 6 yrs at $25.5 mil. three more in that deal plus two option years at 9 and 11 mil. he's 29, so it runs through his 35th birthday if my math is right.

Cardinals and Giants have both reportedly made trade offers for Stanton: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/262184048/cards-make-trade-offer-for-giancarlo-stanton/

Not much is known about Cardinals offer although they are reportedly willing to part with Sandy Alcantara as part of the deal.

One of Giants deals floating around involves Dee Gordon and Stanton going to San Fran for Joe Panik and the #2 and #3 rated prospects in the Giants organization.

The general consensus is that the Giants aren't really going to do the Stanton deal without offloading Belt, Pence, Samardijaga or other highly paid players. And really, they were a 64 win team last year with an aging/ expensive core and are up against the luxury tax line. Adding Stanton puts them over in pretty much any scenario. He might as well stay in Miami rather than go to the Giants, he'll be a highly paid guy on a crappy team shedding salary around him either way.

From all the reports I've read, the Cardinals are the only serious team in this thing. And if they really wanted to, they could put together a prospect package that could blow any team away while still remaining competitive. It's Miami trying to draw bids to have the Cardinals bid against themselves, which they're smarter than.

Deal is done by December 1st is my bet.

It seems that it's going to come down to Stanton waiving his No Trade Clause and accept a trade to St. Louis, which there have been conflicting reports on if he would or not. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It's not every day you have an opportunity to acquire an MVP via trade, so hopefully it can get done!

I'm still wondering if Stanton is very narrow in where he will go. He has his money either way. He wants to go home to LA. It really depends on if he wants to win now or if he's content to sit in Miami until he gets everything he wants.

Keep in mind that it's likely he turned down be traded to StL back in July.

That never happened. No one even claimed him at the waiver deadline, and Miami was in the midst of being sold and probably wouldn't have even had the ability to get a deal done.

It’s been widely reported that the Cards came aggressively for Stanton. Kind of tells me the hang up isn’t necessarily the Cards or the Marlins.

Maybe the Marlins are trying to wait out Stanton until he will accept a trade. Jeter certainly seemed like the Marlins hadn’t committed to trading him even though we all know better. Stanton certainly made comments he was fine staying and he certainly can hang out in Miami for three years and opt out.

I’m as comfortable betting $20 on Miami next season as St. Louis for him next year. He is certainly in the drivers seat.

Looks to be the Giants for Stanton. Looks like Giants taking Stanton and Gordon contracts. Not sure what they plan for pitching.

Hope we make a run at Abreu this year and Harper (ugh, can't believe I'd say that) next year. I just think Harper is a bit of dugout cancer in Washington sometimes.

Cards brass met with Stanton team today.

Also, Diaz traded for a AA outfield player from Toronto, presumably to make room for 2 players. No idea who.

Here's what MLB trade rumors has to say about the outfielder the Cardinals got from Toronto:
In exchange, Toronto parted with its second-round pick from the 2016 draft. Woodman, a left-handed-hitting outfielder who’ll soon turn 23, had a solid debut season at the low A level but struggled upon reaching Class A in 2017. In 414 plate appearances, he slashed just .240/.320/.378 while striking out 157 times. Needless to say, his offensive game will require quite a bit of polishing, but the Cards can certainly afford to be patient with him.

Apparently, over the weekend, the Cards upped their offer on the money side for Stanton, so that they are willing to eat more of the contract than SF. I have to give them credit for being all in. How it turns out??????

Regardless, I would really like to see a reliable innings eating SP, but for a 2-3 year contract. Also, a closer and a set-up guy. It's amazing how much the entire bullpen improves, when the last 2 innings are fixed.

If no Stanton, I would look for Yelich. Not a MOTOB, but better defense and he's been a good hitter for his career. Still young, under contract for 4 more years and potentially hitting his prime. Likely, the best player on the Card's team day 1 and the outfield defense turns into a big strength. It should make the line up even better at OBP and have a whole pile of folks that will hit 20 hrs.

The Marlins handled this so poorly, so I assume Stanton is going to the Giants. They really should have played Stl and the Giants against eachother for better offers, but instead they just got 2 "good enough" offers from each team and are letting Stanton decide. Just so dumb, they just threw away all their leverage.

But it proves that the Miami front office is dumb, So I'm also hoping they pivot to good trades for Yelich or Ozuna. I'm thinking they'll sign an Alex Cobb level starting pitcher, but if all their offensive upgrades fall through, they'll go after Darvish or Arrieta in earnest.

Or at least inexperienced. Part of me wants Yelich more, but that might just be the risk averse part of me. It would leave more payroll for pitching. A lot can happen in 10 years, it's a lot to eat if something goes wrong. The contract for Stanton is set up for him to stay, with the highest payouts after the 3 year out. That being said, him sitting at the 3 or 4, with high OBP guys in front, would be fun to watch!
