Back to .500 ball. Now let's get a W streak going and catch the little bears.

The grand Slam by Yadi was amazing. Are we finally turning the corner? 1st place in the central is now palpable.

August is better when the Birds on the Bat are in it. It's been a tough team to watch and I'm only cautiously optimistic.

Cardinals are now only 1 game back of the Cubs heading into this weekend. Cubs are in the desert playing Arizona. Cardinals are hosting the Braves. By the end of this weekend, will the Cardinals be in 1st place in the Central?

Maybe tied, but the Cubs have a favorable schedule coming up. Of course, their performance against SF shows that there is hope.

We should also start watching the wild card race as well. I thought the wild card was a forgone conclusion months ago with how the Diamondbacks and Rockies were playing. But we're only 4.5 and 5.5 games back of those two. Plus they play each other 7 times which means we gain ground on one of them 7 times.

Embarrassing loss at Boston last night. Last week's optimism was a lot like the eclipse, gone in a flash.

Well, a month (31 games) left to the season, 5 games out of division lead and 5.5 out of the wildcard (but only 2 teams to pass in either scenario). Predictions? I am reasonably pessimistic, it just doesn't feel like a run is coming to me. I hope I am wrong.

Edit: If the Rockies go 15-15, the Redbirds would have to go 21-10 to tie (or the Cubs could go 16-15 and the Cards tie them instead/too).

Agreed.

A weird trade. With Wainright apparently dead and Reyes' status for the start of the season uncertain, the Cards are likely going to have to sign a Leake-ish pitcher in the offseason, now.

Re-sign Lynn. Then have Martinez, Lynn, Wacha, Weaver, Wainwright/Reyes/Flahrrty

Lynn sounds pretty pissed off at the Cards in today's articles. He feels the Cards have dissed him by not talking an extension. I'm sure $$,$$$,$$$ can turn that around.

Lynn also seems upset that Leake was traded.

I doubt Lynn is back. I think the youth movement starts now!!!

I hadn't read the articles. Too bad, but, if the youth is good enough, ok. I am sure that Lynn is looking for big money, as he should.

Flaherty to make his MLB Debut tomorrow against the Giants. I'm excited to see what he can do.

I saw him pitch for the Memphis Redbirds in Tacoma against the Rainiers back on August 6th. Outstanding performance -- great curve ball.

Flaherty's debut earlier than expected. He'll start tonight rather than tomorrow afternoon.

Cardinals September 1 call-ups (aside from Flaherty) include C Alberto Rosario, IF Alex Mejia, and OF Harrison Bader from Memphis and RHP Sandy Alcantara from Springfield.

I'm sure all teams could say this, but after blowing so many games with leads in the 8th and 9th innings, this team is only 3 games out of a wild card spot.

And Luke Weaver has looked terrific!

The last series against the brewers may mean something!

Pitching matchups for this weekend's HUGE series at Wrigley:

Friday: Martinez (11-10, 3.33) vs. Lackey (11-11, 4.65)
Saturday: Wacha (12-7, 3.99) vs. Hendricks (6-5, 3.35)
Sunday: Lynn (11-7, 3.01) vs. Quintana (10-11, 4.25)

Thoughts?
