Pretty cool watching Moncada strike out because Renteria bunt attempted him into an awful count.

What the HELL is he thinking?

With a man on first base and no outs, an MLB team's probability of scoring at least one run in the inning in 2015 was 0.499, or roughly 50-50. Pushing that runner up to second in exchange for an out reduced those odds to 0.447, or just under 45 percent. So not only does the bunt reduce the number of runs the team could expect to score in that inning (from 0.84 to 0.65) but it reduces the team's odds of scoring any runs at all.

Don't recall where I heard it but going into today's game, Quintana was the last pitcher to win a game for the White Sox and Cubs.

I want to stay he's the first pitcher in MLB history to strike out 10+ in a game for both teams in the same season.

Can I also mention I'm so so glad we're not facing him this series. Too soon.

Dan Jennings out, and Casey Gillaspie in. Should fall somewhere between 11 and 18 in the Sox farm system. Started the year as the 74th best prospect on mlb.com Could be a sneaky good move from Hahn.

So long Melky. It was fun, regardless if the duration of your stay was characterized by underachievement.

I would guess Gonzalez would be the last to be shipped and we can close the book on phase 1 of the rebuild. That was exhausting.

It truly amazes me how many fans don't understand what the white sox are attempting to do right now. I know Cubs fans had this problem early on, and I'm sure Houston fans did the same. But the confusion from fans when the white sox "don't get any major league ready players" in return for Melky, and those upset at the major league roster after all of the trades, boggles my mind. ITS A REBUILD! The players on the team are trying to win every game they play. The front office is ok with a team that will struggle to win games for the rest of this year, and most of next.

Sorry, had to get that out. I need to stay out of comment sections after trades.

I'm a Cubs fan and I was hoping the Cubs would model after the early 90s Braves. They are the ones who started it all, albeit without the advanced analytics. This nonsense of the Cubs "pretending" to want to win it all by signing over the hill and very expensive veterans while your minor league system is bare didn't make sense to me.

What I was looking for during the Cubs rebuild was two things: effort and growth. The White Sox absolutely are going about this the right way. All these young guys will come up together and learn what it takes to win. The fans will have a great time watching it happen. They will take their lumps for a few years but when they get it, it will be a lot of fun.

One of the things that hurt the Sox in the rebuild this year is that all their free-agent-to-be starting pitchers pretty much sucked out loud this year. If one of Pelfrey, Holland or Gonzalez had had a decent half a season, he could have been spun for even more prospects.

Gonzalez had a pretty nice start and then had that miserable stretch from mid-May to mid-June. He might bring something, but not as much as he would have had he kept his ERA in the 3s.

It particularly hurts with Holland since he was acquired pretty specifically for the purpose of flipping for prospects at the deadline. Instead, he's having the worst year of his career.

Anybody been watching lately? There's actually been a lot to like....

Big day Friday.

Yep, went Tuesday. Pleasantly surprised.

Weird place to be. I want them to win, yet at the same time be in the hunt for a top three draft pick. I know the MLB is a step above a crap shoot, but I'd much rather draft at the top if we are rebuilding anyway.

I've been able to watch more the past week or so. On paper it looks like Moncada is struggling with a .196 Batting average (I know this isn't the best indicator, but its the first thing you see) but he is having great at bats. He is controlling the zone well, you can see him tracking pitches well. I think he is going to break out here soon.

Agree with your analysis on Moncada. My son and I were discussing similar idea, how while a little boring, he IS willing to take a walk. Tuesday he was 1-2 with an RBI, but also a .750 OBP.

Also as you mention, be careful looking "on paper." .196 does not look good, unless you realize he was at .098 very recently. Heck, his first inning hit on Tuesday raised his batting average .016, which shows he does not have many at bats.

Yup, I find it highly encouraging that he has a .366 OBP (ahead of Avi and Abreu) with a .196 avg. Also, nice to see TA heating up with a 7 game hit streak, was starting to get a little worried about him.

Agree on TA too. Yes, it was one game last night, and he was good at the plate, but I liked how he looked at the plate overall. You could tell he was doing a great job recognizing pitches last night. I think you can tell a lot about where a hitter is at on how he looks on the pitches he is taking. Timmy looked good doing that last night. Need more of that from him. Maybe he can learn a thing or two watching Moncadas approach.

I had actually forgotten about this being an issue. Hopefully he's at peace and it translates on the field going forward (not to be callous or trivialize his situation).

Thanks for sharing, I was not aware of this issue. I hope the young man can find strength to handle this loss. Never easy, especially at a young age. Best of luck Tim.

Once pitchers start realizing he's not going to chase anything outside of the zone, we'll see him start to barrel up some more pitches.

OBP is so much more important than AVG, anyway. Moncada's eye is *incredible*.

Arrrrrrgh. Giles, Houston closer, throws 7 of 8 pitches for balls. First and second, tie game.

What does Sanchez do? Strikes out on three pitches

first pitch out of strike zone and he makes a weak swing. Looked like a two strike protect me swing, but on the first pitch? Wtf? Stupid baseball from a veteran.
