so we sorely miss black and alstork? I think damonte is at least = alstork after an offseason.
Freshman Damonte > alstork

Ill buy that. He has potential to be a real impact player, IMO. Looking forward to his continued development.Freshman Damonte > alstork
Freshman Damonte > alstork
If you ignore defense and offense, then sure...
Alstork had a higher Offensive Rating, eFG%, FT%, FG%, and virtually identical 3P%, had a better !!!%.
Williams out rebounded Alstork. That's about it.

When you finish 12th in the B1G with 4-14 record, the discussion on whether we will be better next year is really irrelevant IMO. How much worse can we be?
The critical question is whether we will be good enough to at least make the tournament, let alone compete in the upper echelon of the B1G.
Obviously, i don't know how the competition in practices will go. but i would start Kane at center. I want that extra height and reach in the lane as much as possible.
Alstork was a 5th year senior, Williams true Freshmen recovering from a major injury who hadn't played competitive basketball in a year. Reasonable to expect significant improvement next year.
This is not a reach of an assumption. You also did not include Alstork's ridiculous knack for bone head fouls 60 feet from the basket.
He is athletic with potential. But keep in mind he is a raw, inexperienced big. We will be lucky if he can go 12 minutes without consistently fouling out.
I was responding to the assertion that Williams was better last year. Significant improvement is not relevant.
Wish we waited just a few more years to do the Maui Invitational.
That seems like an awful lot to expect from a freshman big. He is almost guaranteed to have foul problems. The refs seem to have an unspoken rule about never giving freshman the benefit of the doubt.Kane, will be on the floor "half" the time. Kane will be more of a force on defense than Ebo.
We could get slaughtered but we have absolutely nothing to lose. A win against almost any of those teams would be more valuable than half a dozen wins against cupcakes. There aren't good losses but the losses against good teams don't hurt your resume.
I know the teams that will be in it. Do we know who we will be playing first?
This may have been posted already, but Alstork made a list...

Sounds like Matic could be staying. If Fletch can work his majic on Matic, he could be a good player. He already has a good skill set, he just needs strength and confidence.
I know that we havent been nearly as good as Michigan State recently but I've always liked how they play a brutal non-con schedule. Always feels like they're ready to go and not fazed by B1G play when it comes around. Conversely, for Illinois it always feels like we are blindsided by the change in competition once B1G starts and that kinda snowballs from there.
Obviously it's a balance because we don't need out players to be blown out by 20 every game before conference play even starts but I'm fine with playing a much better non-con than we have recently (and I think Underwood said something to that effect before this season but I'm not 100% sure)
