2020-21 Illini Men's Golf

He could definitely make some coin on the senior tour, but at 55, I think he’s committed to a career of coaching with an occasional tournament on the side. Maybe he could still be competitive at 60 but that’s a rare bird.
Isn't he the highest paid golf coach in the nation? Seems like an easy commitment to make!

I was curious about TV times for the upcoming Nationals.
Found these times, which are all Eastern and all coverage is on the Golf Channel
The NCAA website does not list ending times for coverage., but I found them on my DVR

Monday, 5:00 PM Eastern, Individual Championships (will be re-aired twice later that night) (4 Hrs Coverage)
Tuesday, Noon Eastern, Quarterfinals (8 teams in four matches) (will be re-aired at 2:30) (2 1/2 Hrs Coverage)
Tuesday, 5:00 PM Eastern, Semifinals (4 teams in two matches) (will be re-aired at 10:00) (4 Hrs Coverage)
Wednesday, 5:00 PM Eastern, Finals (2 teams in one match) (will be re-aired at 10:00) (4 Hrs Coverage)

Nothing over the weekend, I guess the pros get the weekend.
Hope that helps !

What is the role of the alternate on teams at the NCAA tourney (Hunt for us)? Do they replace an injured player? Can that happen at any point in the tourney? Can they replace a player who simply isn't playing well?

They don’t have to replace an injured player and can happen anytime except in the middle of a round. You could imagine trying to prove a guy is injured versus just playing bad. Not clear on if you remove a guy if you put him back in. Maybe someone knows that answer.

Didn't realize how well he was playing in 2021, up over 200 spots in the world golf rankings to 245. Currently 14th in points on the Korn Ferry Tour, the top 25 get PGA Tour cards. Has 2/2 cuts made on PGA tour events as well.

yeah he is playing great, I posted this update in the wrong golf thread, there is another with illini golfers in the pros and we've been following Hardy and others semi-closely over the last year or so.

As one would guess, based on early scores the course is playing tough despite great weather conditions. Pars are going to be good scores this week as the Illini try to get into the top 8. I’ll throw a wild guess out of +20 as the score needed to get it done.

That's a bold pick this early.
I like it!

In case you're like me and looking at the lllini's early scores and wondering "which is harder, the front or the back?" ....
The front 9 is the harder 9, by about. 7 strokes.
Front 9 +1.3
Back 9 +2.0

Ilinois started on the back

Good to know, thank you. Would love to see them finish in the top 5-6 today at a minimum.

It’s going to be easier to score in the morning then the afternoon. Course is going to play hard and fast later in the day. I would be surprised if any of the afternoon teams shoot under par.

I hope your morning theory holds true. We need that advantage tomorrow.

Need one of the top three to go -2 or -3, get one good round of +1 or +2 from the 4 and 5 man and the Illini are in good shape. A middling first day for sure but still in fine shape. This group has lots of fight in them. Nobody is going low here. Keep grinding!!

It is rare that all 5 of our guys do not break par after a round. Hopefully we can get back on track and get a under par score today. We need to keep around that top 8 even though the first cut is 15. The good news is that teams like Tech and Sam Houston will fall back which makes our job easier. At least we are not Texas right now as they made it very hard for themselves. We do not need to get these strokes back today but 3 or 4 under on this course is a solid round. We need everyone to step up, especially Gio as he had one of his worse rounds all year.

I didn't pay attention yesterday, but it appears tee times are based based on ranking?

The 6 top-ranked teams are already on the course this morning. (And no one else.) Cumulative scores sit at -1 at this early stage.

Yes, yesterday the highest ranked teams went out in the afternoon and today in the morning.
For the most part, that is. It wasn't an exact sorting by rank, but pretty close.
Hoping that they don't revert tomorrow, as afternoons are always a bit harder than mornings.
