How does a once ranked top 25 team with a 31-3 record go unranked? Tough draw for Wisconsin
JMU isn't some stealth high metric team like some of the under seeded teams we've faced in the past. They're around #50 in the Massey Composite (avg of more than 50 ranking systems), and Vegas agrees since they were a 4-5pt underdog.

Assuming UW doesn't come back, I just chalk this up to another example of huge variance in day to day performance in NCAA basketball. UW is still very likely the better team, and would still probably win about 65-70% of the time against JMU, but it looks like just not today.

This St Mary's-Grand Canyon game has everything except good basketball. It's loud as heck and the players are flying around everywhere, but its 28-27 at halftime.

Wisconsin finished the last 11 games of the season 3-8 with losses to Rutgers, Indiana, and ...Michigan... beating Purdue seemed to make a lot of people forget.

Yeah I think Badgers maybe win if they get anything at all from Storr/Wahl. They had at least 12 pts of missed bunnies.

I just noticed a stat at the start of the Wisky game. They're 16-3 in the first round. That means that it's a given that they go to 16-4. The numbers don't lie. Let the tears flow!

I don't see a JMU team that is exceptional... they are quite competent as one would expect...but I am seeing a Wisky team that is playing poorly in every aspect of the game and seemed disinterested from the opening tip. Their level of play is unrecognizable from what we saw last Sunday. Unexplainable....and for me that is saying a lot.
So glad others agree, very un-Wisky type game. Gard success stems from following the Bennett style game. Strong fundamentals. Great shot selection. control tempo, few to no mistakes.

This isn't Wisky today and JMU looks average. More Wisky beating themselves. Obvious that Wahl is no Domask and not sure Gard ties his fortune to Hepburn the next year or two.

I think I picked James Madison in every bracket. 2 reasons: 1. I think James Madison is a good teams 2. Wisconsin looked completely disinterested in the selection show. Didn't think they'd bring the A game.

What is striking today for me is that Illinois starters are much better than everyone else minus top 5-6 teams. Then you add Dainja and Goode off the bench. Just don't see a trio of Coleman, TSJ and Domask on other teams.

Same here. Chucky looked like he could care less while his teammates were at least high fiving.

James Madison was so sorely underseeded. Wisconsin got screwed with their draw.
It's possible this is true in hindsight (teams with great records against terrible schedules are unknowns), but UW was favored almost as much as the other 5 seeds, so this wasn't obvious in advance. I blame the selection committee for lots of things, but not this.

I don't think a top 3 seed loses today, but I think 2 of the 4-5 games end in upsets.
Going into the tournament, I thought one of Auburn-Alabama would lose, Kansas would lose, and one of Wisconsin-St. Mary's-Gonzaga would lose.

2 of 3 ain't bad.

Yeah Wisconsin is a solid team but have some limitations-that was a horrendous draw in terms of matchup
Matchup...Talent...Team Chemistry...Coaching...Overall Record. JMU was the best team on the floor tonight/this season in every facet. Wisky showed their true colors in early February. That Pud win clouded a lot of peoples memory.
