But the whistle had already blown. That is my biggest issue with it.
I watched the rerun several times. The ball was out of Ayo’s hands before he got creamed, long enough that there was no controlled basketball to block.
The exact hit MAY not have been deliberate, but it was certainly within the general approach MSU was taking.

There's a reason the law treats reckless disregard as being closer to deliberate intent than run of the mill negligence (in civil cases). If you act with a complete disregard to whether your actions injure another person, that's really no better than if your intent is to injure the person. The way Sissoko bring his arms and elbow down on Ayo is clearly reckless, if not intentional.

For one guy? We are incapable of playing if one guy isn't on the floor?
Guess what, he ain't gonna be there all season next "year".
Anyway, they are not going to move the date of the start of the B1G Tournament, so postponing at this point is futile.
Whoosh... right over the head!

Ayo has regularly mentioned in postgames that his attitude is to treat every game like it might be his last. You never know what could happen. I think he'll come back even more fired up. He's not going to let this injury derail the strong finish to this season that he's been working towards.

The difference between a good man and a trash can is this.

John Groce dismissed Kendrick Nunn from the team and lost his job because of it. The next year with Nunn, our best player before ayo, since 2011 we make the tournament.

Tom Izzo keeps Adrean Payne on the team after he’s accused of the same thing plus rape. Tom Izzo is a trash can human being.

So the Sparty punishment will be when they are allowed no thuggery against Michigan, compliments of Ayo’s nose. Great.

I have no desire to play MSU in BTT this year. Don’t want a repeat of their thuggery and don’t want any Illini players looking for retribution. Only possible good thing is that refs bend over backwards to keep MSU in line and call it so close that it benefits Illini. But not putting money on that.
If history repeats itself...again....Ayo will get injured in The next game against MSU.

don’t rush Ayo, let him heal. Whether it’s 2 weeks or 1 month or end of season.

saw some clip yesterday about Brad saying “he’s done enough” I can’t help him develop him anymore, should go to nba.
I know it’s related to senior day/nba but also looking at that perspective for health.

Would love BT champ, BTT champ, NCAA E8/FF/champ so hopefully heals well/fast

As a worry wort, this also opens up Ayo to a greater chance of COVID exposure. Doctors offices, multiple staff hospital interactions, etc.

Yeah, between that game and all the off the court stuff with MSU the last couple of years there is some tarnish there that will never come off.
Like a green turd. Sissoko should of been called when he smacked Kofi in the head. Good job refs, I'm sure Izzo you made Izzo 😊

I know many are down on Ayo's ability to continue contending for B1G POY or NPOY honors, but I disagree. I know it sounds insane, but I think this injury has given Ayo an opportunity to establish a totally unexpected and compelling narrative for the end of his collegiate career. If Ayo comes back, masked, and leads this team to some gritty wins, you will immediately start seeing chatter about how he is a real-life superhero, praising him for the way he has overcome adversity, and talking about us as a team of destiny that can't be derailed. Voters love these kinds of stories.

On the prior trajectory, Ayo wasn't making up much ground against Luka. But now Ayo can shift the story in a manner that Luka can't match. I could easily envision the final discussion revolving around how Luka might have had better stats, but Ayo showed leadership and dominance while fighting through a late season injury. Might not be enough in the end, but I think it could keep it interesting.

This all still hinges on Ayo coming back and playing well. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Host-"Good evening Mr. Izzo. Welcome to the Illinois Fans Lifetime D-Bag Awards Dinner! Let me show you to your table! Here you are sir! I'm sure you know Mr. Knight, Mr. McCaffery, Mr. May, all the officials from the 2005 National Championship game, Mr. Alexander, and...Mr...uhhh well IDKWTI actually. Enjoy your evening!"

Izzo- "Where's Bruce Pearl?"

Host- "Oh he's backstage rehearsing his D-Bag of the Century award speech."

Izzo- "Nice! What does he receive for that?"

Host- "He gets kicked in the nuts by Mary Henson and then one month on a mountain top in a yurt with Bill Walton and an unlimited supply of hash and acid."

So, Ayo with a mask, blue Superman suit, and orange cape to end his collegiate career. Couldn't ask for anything better.

Heard rumor that Juwan Howard plans to walk up to Sissoko at the scorers table when he checks in for first time during first MSU game, give him a “hard foul,” and raise his hands above his head and scream Chicago Public Schools. And as he’s led off the court, he’s gonna stop, point at Izzo, and yell “it’s Eye-o not A-yo you MFer.” /s

Honestly all the coaches in the league should be outraged. Their kids might be next. Whatever it takes for Tom to make the tournament. Kids health be damned.

I don't understand posts like this. Obviously Izzo went in the the mindset of playing a physical game. I can't imagine Izzo telling Sissoko to take out our best player so we can't make a tourney run and have sustained success. Let's think reasonably here.
No, but its obvious they were told to make this a physical game and when you put a clown in there who only plays 6 mins a game and is clearly not a seasoned player, this is what can happen. Some players understand the limits, some just don't and the look he gave Kofi after the shot to the head pretty much said - "lets do this" - and he did.
