anyone in the game threads or PG thread questioning ayo or his toughness for missing shots/fts after this should feel pretty dumb right now.
I didn’t post in here but I was upset he missed the free throws. I feel like an a$$ hat now.

I honestly wish we were in another league this is a joke. Izzo should be reprimanded and thug man should be suspended. It should not take video replay to have to even call a common foul it was terrible.
And I feel like a 4th string center is the lowest of low hanging fruit. It’s not like we are talking about suspending Garza. Not that I think Garza is a dirty player at all or has done anything remotely requiring suspension, just that we aren’t talking about a marquee player here.

A front runner for NPOY and B1G POY is sh#t whipped by a Izzo "street fighter".....silence from the B1G. This should all but close the book on what the B1G thinks of Illinois vs their national sports viewership bread winners.

It's beyond question that Sissoko should be suspended no less than 2 games....and the officials should be reprimanded for their failure to even call a foul on the play.
For those posters who scoff at there being any bias or intent by some to do anything they can to stick it to IL athletics, this is just one of dozens of examples in the last 30 years of exactly that happening. I know some posters are relatively new or young fans and may not be aware. Go back and research (Robert is a great resource here) the 1984 IL/Kentucky ncaa basketball game (elite 8 I believe) that was played on Kentucky's court and ushered in the neutral court rule, or the Deon Thomas recruiting "scandal" that crippled the program for a decade. Or the IL/Michigan football game Rocky Harvey "fumble" that ushered in replay, the IL/Miami tournament game out of bounds play that ushered in yet another replay rule. The list goes on and on. That's just off the top of my head, quickly. When considered, all together, it is a pattern that repeats over and over. It leaves only one logical conclusion. IL is not supposed to win, and any actions that can be taken to ensure that are just fine with the B10 and NCAA.

Not equating this situation with the examples listed. Just pointing out that it is consistent with a pattern involving IL athletics.

Well Curbello needs to go up fast as we are going to need him (hopefully just for the next 2 games).

It truly is amazing the “screw” jobs we have been given over the years. This case here is obvious thug man must be suspended the fact that gutless Warren has done nothing just solidifies my position. I wish we were in the BIG 12 or some other league. There is a reason we as a league have not won the NCAA in 20 years. You can’t play like MSU is allowed to for 20 games and then adjust in the tournament. Basketball is fully a contact sport, but what we saw the other night was criminal

Perhaps I'm overreacting, but I don't feel very reassured that Ayo might be back soon with a mask on. You have to think that for a guy who makes his living driving hard to the hoop, this will (consciously or unconsciously) affect the intensity of his drives over the short-term. I really, really, really (keep going) hope I'm wrong here, but it seems like a real possibility.

I can't see this affecting his intensity.

BU's comments don't give me much reassurance. He's out "indefinitely" and he hopes for his return to the lineup.

That doesn't sound like there's a timetable.

I'd be worried about a lot of players. Not this one. Breaking his nose might adversely affect his modeling career, but not his basketball career. You might question a lot of things about his game, but toughness? Guts? Nope and Nope.

As weird as this my sound, my initial thought when Ayo walked up to the line for his free throws was, "did he break his nose?" You could tell it was definitely affecting him.
Watching the play when it happened I thought so too. Then when he proceeded to uncharacteristically miss 3 free throws I thought he had a concussion.

Coach isn't going to telegraph to future opponents if our top player will or won't be available. If he's smart it isn't made public until starting lineups are announced for the game that Ayo returns.

Two issues with a broken nose and face mask that I have not seen discussed.
1. How will he adapt to playing with a mask? It could affect his visibility. It could also be a mental thing until he gets used to it.
2. Is there any impact to his breathing? The broken nose and/or surgery could restrict his ability to breathe.

Finally, if he is out for a time, how does that affect his game conditioning?
I wonder too. All valid concerns. Plenty of guys seem to have been able to play with masks (Rip Hamilton continued wearing his for years), but I would imagine it will take at least some time to adjust to playing with one.

That fall when we thought he blew out his acl certainly didn't

The play was a consequence of the way the refs were calling (or not calling the game) and putting players at risk from the muck. Physical yes, muck no. I was 'grumbling' throughout the game over the non-called fouls (so much my wife complained midway thru first half) - there were practically 3 each possession - defense with hands, bumps, pushes, hits, ... I know we say - let 'em play - but a team playing overly physical AND the refs don't call much, will only play even more physical. Kofi practically draws a foul every time he touches the ball, most uncalled (no blood rule). If the refs called the fouls they should have in the first 8 minutes, MSU would have had to make a choice - foul out in the first half or play muck-free. In our IU game, much much less physical contact was being called resulting in excessive number of fouls. A hit to Kofi's head is a hit to the head, but yet it was common foul. Then think about the games we lost on our questionable "flagrants", eg, Rutgers. Coach and players didn't make excuses post-game but it was not good defense. Other conferences dont have nearly the same degree of BTN physical play - eg, last nights games didn't have constant hands and pushing. venting over. I hope it not serious. Ayo and the team deserve the opportunity to shine.

Remember these names: Larry Scirotto, Steve McJunkins, Edwin Young. Part of the problem that officials are so bad in the Big Ten is that they must do only Big Ten games and no other conferences. This was caused by Covid concerns but I wonder which good officials said, "no way, I want to do multiple conferences." Also, what did other conferences do with this exclusive directive?

Saw a game where another player was wearing a mask he said his mother told him to wear it 24/7 so he got used to it. Not a terrible idea.

Hopefully, they will use this to start playing with a chip on their shoulders.
