you gotta think he already has someone in mind for the position. Either someone he knows or someone who contacted him after he was hired saying he'd be interested (backroom talks?)

The Zooker has been biding his time north of the boarder :)

I highly doubt JW told anyone before the students; it was likely leaked, and I'll put money that he addresses how angry he is with the fact that it was leaked in the presser.

I am hoping (with about 20% actual belief) that JW has a real nice hire up his sleeve. Feel bad for Cubit, but this is a football program representing 13 million Illinoisans, and we need to start treating it as such.

I'm sure JW woke up this morning and his agenda said:
1. Fire coaches
2. Wait for players to find out on twitter
3. ???
4. Profit.

You're overcomplicating things. The underpants gnomes only had three steps.

Josh Whitman, you are a former player. You know how wrong this is. You're off to a very bad start. I wish you the best of luck, but the failure to notify the players before this went public was absolutely wrong, wrong, wrong. No excuses.

Good grief. Was he supposed to tell the team before Cubit?

How about Lovie Smith as HC, Ron Turner as OC, Leslie Frazier as DC/DB coach, Kittner as QB coach. Heck, maybe bring back the Zooker for ST. I'll bet recruiting would see an uptick.

Oh, sorry. Some people are real heated about that though.

Not heated here, but just shows poor judgement IMO. Given the situation he was given, even if he thought he was the best guy for the job - there is in no way that it looks like anything more that nepotism. In other words, putting your personal agenda before the kid's best interest. He lost me after that- I want a coach with good judgement.

Well at least we know JW can be decisive when he needs to be. It's a great move. I just hate that it's in March. But if JW's first pick for coach is available and ready to come in immediately, why wait another season?

Not sure of the significance but Frazier agreed to be the secondary coach for the Ravens. I don't believe Lovie Smith has accepted another position any where.

I think this is absolutely the right call, I'd hate to watch a season of going through the motions and awaiting the inevitable (not that the season will now be watchable, but that's another topic).

At least we have no competition to speak of at this time of year, that's gotta be worth something.

I like the idea of Frazier over Smith.

I'm thinking Greg Schiano. He has been mentioned before, I know he is currently on Ohio State staff but I bet he would take the offer. I wouldn't mind it because there are some good recruits in NJ, his old stomping grounds so I can see this happening.

Damage control from the leak. Tough situation for all. :shield:
Eh, they'll get over it. They have a former player talking to them. Quick apology on the timing, and move on. Then tell them to 'man-up' if necessary. "Back in my day...."

It really is a non-issue, especially since nobody here actually knows how anything went down. Isn't the head coach getting replaced bit 1000x more important than the players feeling slighted for 2 hours?

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Greg McMahon coming here.

That being said, I'm still leaning towards Frazier.

Did Cubit leak this perhaps?

I mean, obviously he's the guy that needs to be told first, then Ryan Cubit, and then as immediately as possible thereafter the team.

Leaked? It was a tweat from the illini football account.... unless it was reported somewhere else first.

What about my feelings? Why did I have to find out on an internet message board? I guess my years as a season ticket holder mean nothing to Whitman :violin:
