The record for most points scored by an 18 year old in a season depends on if you count WHA records or not.

If you count the WHA, it’s Gretzky in 79 with 46-54-110.

If you don’t count the WHA, it’s Hawerchuck in 82 with 45-58-103.

Come on Bedard! Pick up the pace!

more Hawks thoughts:

Reichel: I'm 100% good with this center experiment. Kid worked hard off season and added 15+ pounds of muscle. He deserves to be rewarded, plus now's the time to experiment. We have some good center prospects, but none of them have size (not that Reichel is particularly big). So, as much as I salivate over Reichel playing with Bedard, this gambit makes sense.

Am expecting Reichel's production and line production to gonna go way up when Kurashev is back and Richardson puts AA back on Reichel's line.

Vlasic: I don't have much more than good 3rd pairing hopes long-term, but he's looked pretty good. Seems like a guy who knows what he can and can't do and sticks with the program. Love his reach.

KK: what a skater. by the time he hits 22, he should be a monster. he should supplant Jones on PP1 (soon, I hope). Jones is great at keeping the puck in the zone, but he's not a scoring threat. might as well give Korchinski an extended audition.

Guttman: might have found something there

There was an article posing which Chicago team is closest to winning a championship.

The way things are going for Chicago pro franchises... it's almost got to be the Fire FC, or the Wolves. The other franchises are years away.

And for any championships at all... whoever wins the Chicago Public League to win the IHSA roundball title.

Watching this talented young man is like watching Wayne Gretzky when he was just starting out to play against the Big Boys.

You can never say anyone is going to have the career that Wayne had. But having Bedard-level talent is going to take you places for sure.
I was pretty young but distinctly remember being at Gretzky's first NHL game. It was against the Blackhawks at the old barn in 1979. I believe it was Messier's first NHL game also.

Believe it or not... Bobby Orr actually played for the Blackhawks for a short while at the end of his career. His knee was badly wasted by that time but he gave it a try. And even though he was playing on one leg... he was STILL way better than everyone else on the ice. The way he scanned the ice with his eyes and set up plays with his surgical passing was amazing. He still had 10 great NHL years in him above the knees but no time left below the knees.

Guys like Gretzky and Orr are simply from another planet. And they played the game on a level above everybody else.

The Hawks are actually fun to watch again. The defense and Söderblom shut down a good Toronto offense last night.

Vlasic was awesome. May have to recalibrate on his ceiling. And that 90' saucer pass that sprang Perry: flippin' beautiful.

AA was good too. Soda was outstanding. Hope he can keep it up.

Perry and Foligno were masterstroke signings by Kyle from Chicago.

I’m convinced that if Orr never had the knee injury, it would have been his scoring record instead of Howe’s that Gretzky would have eventually passed.

Howe, Gretzky and Orr are all great beyond measure for different reasons.

Howe is great because of his scoring, grit, and old-school snarl in playing the game and for being the League’s best for many decades.

Gretzky is the greatest single Offense-skilled player the League has ever seen.

And Orr could it all – every facet of the Game. Great offense skills, superb defender, inspirational player.

When people talk about who was the greatest NHL player of all time... there can be no single answer. Each of these guys had a different skill set and were the best at what their skill set was.

And of course, there have been other really great players in the Game. But it’s tough for anybody to beat any of these three guys.

Not quite at the same level... but B’hawk fans were treated with guys like The Golden Jet and Stan Mikita. Mikita was a stickhandling master. And we know about Bobby’s slap and wrist shots.

The NHL Game today is also on a different level. The guys are bigger and faster. And they come in to the League with a greater polish and poise than guys did before.

The were actually fun to watch last year once they got rolling under Richardson's system. Sure, they lost most nights but they didn't get blown out a ton. But yeah, they are more fun to watch this year because it looks like they have a chance to win.

Last year was very weird because the goal was to lose and get Bedard. Now that we have that out of the way it's much better to watch because we're actually trying to win and Bedard himself is super entertaining. To your point, it's also nice to have some structure. Hard to overstate how bad Colliton was.

Is it just me, or did the Blackhawks get one of the hardest front loaded schedules in recent memory? I was at the home opener on Saturday night, and the team looks much better than the 2-4 record. The opening schedule is brutal through Thanksgiving (Vegas twice, Boston twice, Florida twice, Tampa twice, and Toronto twice). Of the first 18 games, 12 are against playoff teams from last year, including 4 against the teams in the Final and 2 against the team that had the best regular season in history!

Nope, it’s not you. Of their first 5 games, four were home openers for their opponent. I guess that’s what you get for winning the lottery…

I was thinking the same thing about the schedule. Didn't look ahead and see that it wasn't going to lighten up until Thanksgiving! Yikes. That said, I'm pretty happy with a 3-5-0 record so far after a nice win in Vegas, especially if they can take down the Coyotes on Monday.

wins are great, but this is 100% a development year. need more elite talent. another top 5 pick will help. a lot.

seeing the youngsters making strides is very gratifying. really, couldn't be more pleased with how well the rookie D men are faring. Richardson has his team playing extremely hard, which is difficult for talent-challenged teams.

Prospects I'm high on: Moore (duh), Rinzel, Nazar, Safonov, Kantserov, Misiak and Lardis. Some D men in Rockford should stick: Phillips, Allan, Del Mastro. Our pool is pretty loaded. And it's only gonna get better. Sunny days ahead.

Totally agree and understand this is a development year. Still like wins though! Probably unlikely, but it would be a huge accomplishment if Richardson could somehow get them to squeak into the playoffs this year. Lots of round 1 and 2 draft picks stacked for the next few drafts. They will definitely be able to build around Bedard soon. Bottom line, it's nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel after these past 6-7 years!

I was at the game in Tampa, in the 300 level. Great vantage point to see plays open up. Might have been his coming out party.

On his first goal, he beat Hedman to the post and got a dirty goal. Everyone knows his wrist shot is deadly. On Johnson's goal, he had a great backhand saucer pass right on the tape.

When he gets real players on his wing, look out...

This team is looking worse and worse. I know they’ve had a tough schedule but they get crushed when they play a dog like the coyotes, canadiens, or preds
I'm not a Blackhawks apologist but is "crushed" losing by a goal IN Montreal and losing by a goal and an empty netter IN Nashville ? I'll give you Arizona.
Not only has the schedule been tough but 10 of the 15 have been on the road.
Did you really think they were playoff contenders this year? Richardson has them playing hard. It will just get better.

Currently slotting in at #3 in the tank. That's an elite talent. Catton sure would look good in a Hawks jersey. Also, we have Tampa's 1st rounder. With their goalie out, being longer in the tooth and cap casualties, they might not make the playoffs this season. Could yield another VG prospect.

Tampa is sitting at 16 right now, last spot out of the playoffs. Their goalie will be back in a couple of weeks.

Where did I say anything about playoffs? But I don’t think asking for at least one point against a bad Nashville team and mediocre Buffalo is asking much at all.
