They just beat Georgia pretty soundly, who was the presumed #1 team going into that game.
We must have a different definition of soundly. They won by a field goal, and pulled a rabbit out of the hat against Auburn the week before. Alabama has not awed me at all this season, especially the first third of the season (including getting beat soundly at home to Texas).

The SEC as a whole looked relatively weak, and those that did play marquis non conference games lost them (Florida State stomped LSU as an example). I think the bias for the strength of the SEC makes Bama's win look better. Georgia had a very weak schedule.

Agreed. They should expand the playoff to say, 12 teams. That should fix it.

Here are the remaining New Year's Six bowl games:

-Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic: #9 Mizzou vs. #7 Ohio State
-Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: #11 Ole Miss vs. #10 Penn State
-Capital One Orange Bowl: #6 Georgia vs. #5 Florida State
-Vrbo Fiesta Bowl: #23 Liberty vs. #8 Oregon
I literally thought you were joking that the Ducks had to play Liberty. As a Ducks fan (second only to the Beloved), I have to say WTAF? Why isn’t there a better matchup?

Edit: looks like Ole Miss skipped up beyond their ranking. I hate the SEC.

Believe it has to do with highest G6 team getting an auto invite, so to speak, to a NY6 game.

In the CFP era G5 schools have a 4-5 record in NY6 games so those matchups are usually much closer than people expect. Sounds like Oregons QB will sit out and I'm sure he'll be far from the only one for Oregon. Despite that, Oregon has a lot more talent but Jamey Chadwell probably has the most innovative offense in FBS at Liberty. It should be a fun shootout to watch.

Wow. If Florida State beats Georgia in a bowl game, will they claim a national championship?
If I am FSU I would not want to play that game. What is the point you win it means nothing you lose it justifies people saying we told you so. FSU won’t opt out because of the money.

To me the argument the committee used was weak. And f you go by the eye test you could have said O$U since their only lose is to the number 1 team on the road and they beat ND at ND. UT dismantle Okla St but they aren’t as good as Louisville. Bama struggled against Auburn and USF this year. Winning the game matters not how dominant you appear to be

The committee over-thought it. How can you know 'Bama is better than FSU? Fact is you can't. There is no way to know who is better than who until the games are played. Almost everyone thought Georgia was the best team all year. Myself and the committee included. But today? Not so much. What we do know is Michigan, Washington, FSU, are all undefeated Power 5 Champs. Texas and Alabama are the other Power 5 champs both with one loss. Texas beat Alabama at Alabama. No speculation. No opinions. No eye test. Just absolute facts.

I just dont get putting a 1 loss champ in over a 12-0 champ.

Winning 12 games in a row is a huge accomplishment and while a QB is important.... it takes a complete team to do that and even then, one bounce of a fumble, one drive, one penalty can end your undefeated season just like that...

I'm weird and root for every game to be decided by a TD or less because let's be honest, I don't watch non-Illini games unless they're competitive on both sides.
Except OSU vs. Mizzou and Oregon vs. Liberty. I hope OSU and Oregon both win by 60+.

For that matter, I hope Michigan also blows out Bama. (1) I hate and am tired of Bama that much, and (2) I want the committee to have egg on its face.

No no, I get conference pride, but because of Connor Stalions and company, rooting for the Wolverines is like rooting for Astros after their cheating scandal! It is not an option!
