Looking forward to seeing that. The Avon in Decatur is showing it for free tomorrow at noon. So either free or go to champaign to the imax. Decisions...

Great marketing plan by the Avon. Celebration going on, and he knows some ppl will want to cool down. Guessing he gets a packed house

Really? Critics have been pretty tough on it. Currently rated at 26% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I never pay attention to critic score. Audience score after opening night was around 75%. I would have put my satisfaction level with the movie higher on a percentage scale. I think I know why it was lower, but saying so would include what i define as a spoiler.

The audience rating is generally much more relevant to me.

Yeah I watched it today. I liked it. So did everyone I was with. I'm not sure why the critic score is so low. I'm much more aligned with the audience score. I think the justice league is going to be really good though.

I'm looking forward to the justice league more than what is probably acceptable for a grown, married man with children.

I saw Suicide Squad today and I liked it but it was just okay to me. The characters are good but the editing is kinda choppy at times which was something the critics mentioned. One issue I had was (trying to be as non-spoiler as possible with this) is the main villain. The reveal of it just seemed too quicky too early in the film. They could have built it up a little bit more than they had.

Just got out of Suicide Squad tonight. I certainly enjoyed the movie, and it isn't nearly as bad as the critics are saying, but the storyline was clunky. I admire that DC is attempting to create a style uniquely their own to rival Marvel, but they are doing so at the expense of quality. The script had several cringe-worthy lines ("We're the bad guys; it's what we do.") from characters that could be so memorable.

I'll put up my amateur review tomorrow.

It seems like the last two DC films(suicide squad and batman vs superman) are lead ups to the justice league. Which could be their real rival film for now. Until some of the stand alone movies start coming out. IE: Flash and Aquaman.

I taught middle school English for a year. We read The Giver. Had some mixed emotions after I saw it. Think the review is pretty spot on.

Thanks! That means a lot, really. I started doing these reviews as a way of self-care as I work through my doctoral program.

Today I reviewed The Invitation (2015), streaming on Netflix US.

Tomorrow I'll be reviewing Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) and Love & Mercy (2015).

There's been a definite lack of quality movie releases of late. Anything currently in theaters worth buying a ticket for? Sully has gotten good reviews but I'm just not interested. Sausage Party I hear is great adult humor but I think I'll wait until it hits the local 2nd run theater, same with Tarzan, Suicide Squad (Marvel fan, not DC), and War Dogs. Don't Breathe maybe? I did see Secret Life of Pets and it was good. I just saw the preview for Nocturnal Animals and it looks like it could be pretty good.

I really wanna see War Dogs. I've heard Don't Breathe was good and saw it had pretty good reviews when I looked it up. Despite the awful reviews and ratings, I enjoyed suicide squad. This could be because I'm a huge DC fan, and I enjoy adaptations of familiar characters. Movie game was pretty low this year, but I think next year will be pretty good.

Hell or High Water is excellent. 3.5 stars minimum.

Disclaimer: Hardly ever go to the movies anymore. That said, I know good when I see it.

heard good things about, just can't bring myself to make the trip. The accountant looks good to me.

I just saw Tarzan, it was alright. A bit heavy on the CGI but I'm not sure how else they could have done some of the scenes without it. I was entertained. I like this Margot Robbie actress. I honestly didn't even know who she was until I saw her cameo in The Big Short (a good movie I watched recently on Netflix on a whim and was pleasantly surprised)l I haven't seen her in Suicide Squad yet cuz I've been on the fence about the movie. But I think I'll go see it now. ;)

I'll be reviewing some films currently streaming on Netflix (US) throughout the week. If there are any requests, let me know! And if you want, feel free to *like* and *follow* on Facebook and Twitter.

Have you seen Electricity on NF? I watched it and was curious what you thought of it. On RT the critics seemed to like it, but the audience only rated it in the low 40's I think.

Also have you seen Scarlett Johansson in Under The Skin? It's not on NF, and I'm not sure where I can find it, but it's definitely on my watch list. I can't believe it's been out 3 years now and I've not seen it. I've seen Jonathan Glazer's Sexy Beast and Birth and loved both of them. Also finding a few comparisons to The Man Who Fell To Earth, which is on my 'All time favorites' list, was enough to get me interested.

If you've reviewed either one, I apologize, I don't do Facebook or Twitter so have never checked your links.

Anyone else seen these two movies, thoughts?

Haven't seen either, actually. I'll be sure to check them out as soon as I can.

Since August, I've been fairly swamped with dissertation research and other school-related things. I have 4 "from the couch" Netflix reviews drafted (The Fundamentals of Caring, The Overnight, Rosewater, & Rock the Kasbah). I've also had requests for Gomorrah & Kagemusha. Hoping to catch up on those by next weekend.

In theaters I really wanted to see The Magnificent Seven, perhaps that can be a next weekend adventure. Really interested in seeing how The Girl on the Train (opens next weekend) turns out.

School comes first! I have Gomorrah and Kagemusha in my Criterion Collection but haven't gotten around to watching them yet (I have so many Criterions to view including the Kurosawa 25 film box set!!). I'm waiting on Mag7, leaning towards Hell or High Water as my next flick in the theater. I'm looking forward to Girl on the Train also, along with Dr Strange, Fantastic Beasts, Nocturnal Animals, Assassins Creed, and Passengers to round out 2017.

The story of many a Criterion Collector... :D I can't resist buying when they (and B&N) have their sales.

I think I'm gonna watch the remaining 2/3 of the Apu Trilogy this weekend. I really enjoyed the first movie.

I used to do the same thing. I got so many now I haven't watched that I've stopped buying them new. There is a local bookstore that gets them in on trade fairly often so I pick up a copy of something I don't have here and there on trade. I don't have that Apu set. Is it an Eclipse set? I have about 10 of those on the shelf.

Okay, looked it up. Sounds interesting. Let me know what you think, I'll keep an eye out for it. I love that Criterion restores a lot of older, hard to find, movies. My all time favorite restoration is The Passion of Joan of Arc, amazing!

Can you elaborate as to why without any spoilers? Have you seen Glazer's other movies?
Well, you might end up watching it and be like, "okay still watching", then all kind of like, "okay whats going on", "is something going to happen", then youll be like, "this is weird" and then it ends.

As for other Glazer movies, I cannot say for sure. I dont know what else he has done.
