Four new reviews are up: Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), Goosebumps (2015), The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016), and Sing Street. I think Sing Street is the best of a relatively weak first half of 2016 and it is my first 4* of the year.

In other news, actor Anton Yelchin died in a tragic accident at age 27. He is most known for his roles in the most recent Star Trek films. I didn't follow his work too closely, but he made a memorable character in Green Room.

The Shallows actually wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be. The dialogue was a bit corny at times, but overlooking that, the tenseness was all there.

I saw Free State of Jones Saturday evening, and cannot recommend. The filmmakers seemed to be conflicted as to if it was a Civil War film, a Civil Rights film, or a vanity piece for McConaughey. There's a flash-forward/flash-back narrative structure that just doesn't fit, and those that can't condone the use of the N-word (even in historical perspective) will be unhappy.

I've got a feeling that someone tried to "fix" this movie with editing and re-shoots and it just came out awful. Poor pacing, poor editing, and even a poor score.

Went and saw Free State of Jones, the new Matthew McCounaghey movie over the weekend. Didn't think it was nearly as bad as some of the reviewers seemed to make it. Though I will say if you're not into history very much you may not appreciate it as much as I did.

I agree about the underwhelming nature of this summer's films. I haven't been this downtrodden about weekly movie line ups in a long time.

Mike and Dave need wedding dates was decently funny. I am looking forward to Jason Bourn and The suicide Squad. Stark Trek is coming out too, as well as Ghostbusters. I actually would like to see both of those. Im just praying Ghostbusters isnt a disaster.

Is there anyone that is going to go see Sausage Party? I thought the trailers were funny, and I like food...so, this could be a winner. Oh yeah, take note of the cast. I think it's stellar for an animated film.

I think one of the problems is the films are not original. It's just been a bunch of sequels.

I rarely go to the movies. Only movie I've seen in theaters this year was Captain America: Civil War.

Agreed. My wife and I go to the theater perhaps twice a year. The last movie we saw there was "The Secret Life of Pets", which IMO was pretty good. Not REAL good, but pretty good.

My whole family is very interested in this movie. I probably won't see it because I prefer movies that need the "movie experience," and documentaries don't really fall into realm for me.

Watched "I Am JFK Jr." last night on Spike TV. I was young at the time he died. I didn't know much about him. Based off of the interviews, he was down-to-earth, and didn't want to be in the limelight much. He was more quiet and reserved, like John Stockton when he played for the Utah Jazz.

I saw it the opening Thursday night. Me and 10 other people in a huge theatre. Sat my butt right in the middle and had the best seat in the house!:cool:

I've liked them all, but I'm an action movie guy in general. I didn't see any trailers before I saw the movie and there was some stuff I didn't see coming, which I appreciated. Hard for me to be truly objective though, as I said earlier, I saw it when I needed a good action movie to appease my general meatheadedness.

Looking forward to seeing that. The Avon in Decatur is showing it for free tomorrow at noon. So either free or go to champaign to the imax. Decisions...
