As of last night ESPN had them as 4-3 vs AP top 25. Maybe they persist the team's ranking at the time they played? Either way, I think Iowa is outside looking in, so I'm not trying to argue them as a better bubble team, just didn't expect to see that on their resume.

Could be. Texas was ranked when Northwestern beat them, but I wouldn't put much weight on that.

OK, I get that we are most likely an 8 or 9 seed, and that we will play Michigan or perhaps Iowa on Thursday at Noon.

I also get that we can only get the 7 seed if we win and both Michigan and Iowa lose. If we get the 7 seed, then we play OSU if they beat Indiana in their last game of the season; otherwise, we play Nebraska in the 7-10 game.

So, let's assume we get the 7 seed and we win. Can anyone find a way for us to play Maryland on Friday night? It seems simple that we cannot, but am I missing something? Is second place dependent solely on the outcome of the Wisconsin v Minnesota game?

WVC is right--we can't play Maryland until at least the semifinals. Maryland can tie the winner of that game, but Wisconsin beat them once head-to-head and, while MD and Minny split head-to-head, Minny holds a tiebreak win over Purdue.

I only watched a bit of the ISU game, but they've got some good players. Looking at their resume, though, despite the gaudy win total I think they need to win the MVC tournament. No real good wins apart from Wichita State and a few bad losses (Murray State, Tulsa). They played a weak non-con slate - best wins are probably Fresno St and New Mexico. They missed opportunities to pick up top-100 RPI wins against TCU and San Francisco.

If ISU wins the MVC tournament, though, and gets the auto-bid, I think Wichita State is in no matter what.

Wichita State: 29-4 (17-1); RPI - 40; P5 wins over LSU (by 35! I know they suck, but wow), Oklahoma, Colorado State; no bad losses and kept it close against both MSU and Louisville

Both should be easily in if they make it to the championship game. If not it's just another slight to the non P5 conferences.

I appreciate the passion....and your sense of fairness for both schools.

But they have an SOS of 163 and 193, respectively....compared to the Illini's 15 and Michigan's 34.

So, my heart does not break for them if one of them gets iced out in favor of us or Michigan. Schedule a tougher slate of teams then we can talk.

I'll give credit to Wichita for trying. Colorado State, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, Louisville. Of course they lost the latter 3 and the former 3 aren't that great. Illinois state however didn't even bother to try scheduling anyone decent. They only had TCU on their schedule who only accidentally ended up good and ISU lost to them anyways.

On paper, our resume looks as good or better than any bubble team, but I worry that we're missing a top quality win that most other bubble teams have. We have no wins against ranked opponents, while a lot of other bubble teams have signature wins against highly ranked opponents.

That's the biggest thing hurting the Illini is that signature win. The wins they have over VCU and the season sweep of Iowa and NW are nice but not that win that they can really hang their hat on. Ideally if they could beat Purdue in the BTT that would seal it. Maryland and Wisky may do it but beating Purdue would give them that signature win.

If the committee has to pick between us and Iowa I think our two wins over them will weigh heavily in that decision. Not worried about Iowa unless they go a round deeper than us in The BTT.

That's the thing though. Head to head isn't the sole arbiter for the committee. It helps but not the sole thing they look at.

That's part of the reason there's much consternation in the commonwealth over Kentucky possibly being seeded ahead of Louisville even though the Cardinals won the head to head.

Slightly related to our tourney hopes (in terms of opponent RPI), Winthrop just beat Gardner-Webb in OT to advance in the Big South tournament. Winthrop is now 25-6.

Stop me if you've heard this one before: Keon Johnson went ballistic in the last 12 minutes of the second half and overtime. Started drilling NBA threes with a hand in his face, making twisting layups in traffic, etc. He scored 2 points in the 1st half and 29 the 2nd & OT. Really fun to watch when it's not happening to Illinois.

They got a bit of a gift on the other side of the Big South bracket as the 2 and 3 seeds were both upset in the quarterfinals. They'll be facing 7 seed Campbell in the conference championship game on Sunday afternoon.

They'll win that one, undoubtedly. Some pretty impressive low/low-mid squads this year: Winthrop, Monmouth, Vermont, and especially Middle Tennessee and UNC-Wilmington. I won't be surprised to see a Sweet 16 run or better among that group. If I had to bet I'd say Middle Tennessee. Giddy Potts!

Don't forget UT Arlington.

Keon Johnson's offensive performance against Illinois was one of the more amazing things I have ever seen in a college basketball game. The kid could barely walk, but he kept coming back and hitting absolutely impossible shots from distance.

Lunardi has us second four out. Not even first four out. There is work to be done.

Just need to take care of business today and then scoreboard watch. A lot of Bubble teams with very difficult matches today.

Something changed between last night and this morning then. We were first 4 out when I was watching one of the games on espn last night. They didn't say anything about us, just showed the list.

Can somebody please post one of those lists with relevant games and who we need to cheer for?

Also read a win over Rutgers won't help much. A loss would be killer.

We need a few teams to go down this weekend and then some B1G tournament success.
Worry that the guys start reading reports and get tight. Right now as the Cubs said...play stupid....(in the sense of staying loose).

On the other side, I think some posted our current road/neutral record as 6-7. If we win that gets us up to .500 in another category of interest to the comittee.

At some point illinois fans need get over the winthrop loss and acknowledge sometimes really good mid majors go on the road and knock iff a good power conference team, it happens. Luckily this is how the comittee will see it

I was bummed at the time, but Winthrop does look like one of those round of 64 upset teams.
