Fill in the Blank:

If Illinois wins the B1G Tournament, they will be a _______ seed.
Assuming the beat PSU, NW, Indiana, and Purdue.

#7
BTT final result is not likely to affect seeding, so 7 is probably our ceiling. Better than 8 or 9!

#8
Assuming we are a 8-9 seed, which 1 seed is the best match up for us?? Kansas, Houston, or Alabama? (Assuming Purdue is 4th 1 seed)

Give me UCLA, Alabama, or Purdue.
UCLA just lost Jaylen Clark (probs for the season) plus we beat them already.
Have a good feeling against Alabama.
If we can put a full game together, I have no doubt we can overpower Purdue.

As someone grew up on Illini hoops in the tournament every year with a great seed in the 80s, Selection Sunday became my favorite day of the sports calendar. The feeling of seeing Illinois pop up on the TV screen in the brackets is hard to describe; you wouldn't think it is that exciting or better than the Super Bowl or World Series or whatever, but I just loved it and the excitement of the draw and location and looking ahead to possible matchups and a long run and it literally was my favorite sports day of the year. There were some lulls in the 90s but also some excitement and then right back to a dominant stretch in the 2000s. Those late Weber and John Groce years, Selection Sunday became the saddest day on my sports calendar and I'd be so depressed that one Sunday every March when Illinois wouldn't see its name called and wondered how this could happen and if Illinois would ever get back. Always so depressing not to see Illinois come up, and a new thing started when I'd have to wait until 8 or so to see the NIT field.

Well, even with the frustrating ups and downs of this year, here we are (ignoring Covid) with a fourth straight Selection Sunday and Illinois firmly in the field and just waiting again on the excitement of seeing where we go and the dreams of making a run. I just want to pass along my thanks and congrats to Brad Underwood, his staff, all the players for making this happen and bringing back my favorite day of the year again. Thank you!! That 2010s stretch has helped me never take being safely in the field for granted, and I can't wait to see where this year's team is seeded and dream again of a long run.

I believe we can still be in Purdue's region as a #7 wherein we can't see them until the EE. As an #8 or #9 we cannot.

Also not impossible that UCLA grabs that last #1 from Purdue this week. So of the five options - sign me up for any of UCLA (who we beat), Purdue (who we just as easily could have beaten) or Alabama (not covering any of their spreads since the Miller stuff, shaky).

Want no part of Houston trying to reach a FF in their own town nor defending champ Kansas who I'm picking to get back to a natty.

Assuming we end up on the 8/9 line, we almost certainly get paired with Kansas.
Missouri is also a projected 8 right now. Wouldn't they make the most sense to put with Kansas or is there a rule (or rule of thumb) that guides region placement of teams that have played each other?

After reading numerous articles this morning regarding the Illini's seed line , # 9 comes up more often than any other.....

I read so many articles my eyes feel crossed .......definitely time for some meds.....It really really is.......................

If we were to win the BTT, I'm guessing we'll be a 7, maybe a 6 (though based on empirical evidence the committee will ignore games from the semis on and wins over PSU and NW might still keep us as an 8/9). If we lose to PSU I think we're a 10, maybe 11. Most likely we will be in the 8-10 range.

If we fall all the way to 10 or 11, there's going to be a very unhappy fan base somewhere.
I definitely could see the committee under seeding us if we lose to psu. Imo a win against psu seals the 8/9 for us as a floor. Nw and Iowa wins push us to the 7.

Unlikely, assuming the bracket matrix (8) is tracking well. 10/11 would mean falling relative to quite a few teams, and this late in the season, that means they'd all have a couple good wins on their resumes while we add nothing. My guess is 2 wins would move us up, maybe even 1, hopefully to a 7 seed.

Penn State desperately needs a win or two to get on the good side of the bubble. They've been extremely effective from 3, which either means Illinois can redeem themselves with good close-outs, or take an extended break before the NCAAs.

I think it's a 7, but just getting the the B1G Tournament Final would probably do it. We all know the committee doesn't usually wait around to see who wins the final game.

IF we beat Penn State and Northwestern I think we are more likely than not to get the 7 seed. Lose to Penn State and we are probably a 9 maybe even borderline 10 if things break bad. So this is a very important tournament.
