Fields is the modern day David Krieg of quarterback fumblers.

Fields is a frustrating QB for fans. He shows you just enough to think that he could be The Guy... and next he does a couple things to show that he probably isn't. He's somewhere in the Muddled Middle of QBs.

Bears drafting position will have a great deal to say about Fields future with the Bears.

I just question, that in this era of the NFL, can you build a team strong enough that it won't rely on a quarterback to be top 10 to have a chance to win it all?

I don't think it can work anymore.

I understand the paradox about Fields, but its clear to me he isnt the guy long term.

I had the same feeling about Mitch after 3 years . the same mistakes keep happening time and time again

the league is now way too pass centric for a B+ type qb to get you far in the playoffs

This is why Top Ten QBs will each command hundreds of millions PER SEASON very soon. The top ones already bag tens of millions a year. There is a big drop-off between the Top Ten-type of guys and everybody else. And those franchises that actually TRY to win something big (unlike a certain local franchise that likes to hibernate) will have to pay up.

It's crazy and ridiculous to pay a guy to toss a football around that kind of money... but Owners are sure raking in the dough so what the hell. Let the players get some. But this sure isn't going to help ticket prices or the number of TV commercials we have to waste our time on to recoup some of those salaries.

Everybody is making hay on this kind of deal except for fans. As usual. And the sport continues to morph into something unrecognizable from what the NFL used to be... when it was more pure football and much less show-biz and corporate.

If you were in my home with me watching a Bear's game with Fields at QB, you would hear "Throw it! Throw the ball!"

I'm tired of watching him hop around waiting to get sacked.

Peyton Manning said that in his first season he called his Dad and said, "Nobody is open." Archie told him, "Yes they are. Welcome to the NFL"

Correct but think of the haul of picks you would be able to collect for this years #1. That could bring in a ton of talent around a B+. But also if Mr USC turns out to be A+ that’s could truly suck.

I don't think "Mr. Cry on the Sidelines" fits the DNA of the Bears.

I am certainly not a Fields fanatic but the guy has talent and speed.. His throwing is suspect at times but given his strengths I believe long term he his as good as we are going to get. We need to take all of the excess cash and draft pics and get an offensive front line that knows how to pass block. If our offense was stronger the defense would be as well.. We have decent receivers and tight ends. It all comes down to blocking and as we learned from watching Paddock this season for the Illini if you get the ball out quick receivers are open. The longer you dance around the more often you get sacked, fumble or picked off..

The Bears have always been pathetic with drafts so I wound assume they will screw this one up too when they have a chance to really make a move.

The Bears were godawful the first three weeks of the season and looked like one of the worst teams in football. They basically had their entire secondary injured and a rotating cast of injuries on the OL.

They’ve played pretty well since then, obscured a bit by the two fourth quarter collapses and Fields’ thumb injury. The Montez Sweat trade - which I was dubious about - has looked like a fantastic move. A couple of the OL spots are still an issue, but the three guys Poles drafted are all playing quite well.

I’m to the point now where I’d like to see what Poles can do going forward. I’m not as sold on Eberflus, but I’d have a hard time firing him if the Bears end up about 7-10. I’d want Getsy gone though.

On Fields, I just don’t see how you can pick up the 5th year option. If you’re heading into Fields’ potential walk year in 2024, the Bears would pretty much have to draft a QB. I wouldn’t hate having Fields in year 4, Bagent in year 2 and high draft pick rookie in the QB room. That would leave the most options open while keeping an experienced QB around for a potential playoff team next year.

They could conceivably win out. They are playing well enough.

I'm not a big Fields fan. He seems to be afraid to throw the ball much of the time. So much dancing around in the pocket. I want him to make me his fan.

I just heard today that Montez Sweat ran a 4.41
40 yd dash at the combine...! That's a fast dude for that size...!

The Bears playing better lately could be the best... or the worst... thing to happen to this franchise (and Bear fans).

Would this mean that the Head Coach and QB are really getting it together and are worth building with in the future? Or is this fools gold and they will end up reverting to their unproductive ways of the past and they are just delaying a needed rebuild?

The Blackhawks knew they needed a rebuild. So do the White Sox. And the Bulls now also need a rebuild. But at this point, how can the Bears know if they need a rebuild or not?
