Illinois / Arizona is a tough one to beat. This is 2nd, just because it wasn't an elimination game for the Cubs. But holy crap what a series. Giants are so damn annoyingly good.

I'm happy. :)

I am bordering on speechless. Greatest Cubs moment of my lifetime thus far.

Hey danielb927, was that worth the $150 ticket?

Only ended up paying $111, but clearly shoulda just saved the bucks instead of going to see that lackluster offensive per...

A few pics from the game post-win. Still kind of beside myself as to what I just witnessed. (these should be clickable for bigger versions)

I didn't realize Moore was up to 120 pitches (had I known this I might not dismissed a 9th inning comeback). I know he's had Tommy John surgery already which probably played a role in Bochys decision but man...

Things appear to be lining up very nicely for the Cubs in the NLCS.

The Nats have fully rested Max Scherzer going against Rich Hill on 3 days rest. They have to be the prohibitive favorites there.

If the Nats win, the Cubs would then be facing the Nats with Scherzer going only in game 3 and 7. If Strasburg is able to pitch at all, it will be out of the pen. The rest of their starters are Tanner Roark, Gio Gonzalez, and Joe Ross.

and don't forget, the Nats have Dusty Baker in the dugout and we have Joe. Dusty is a nice baseball guy, we know him well, but he will never out manage Joe even on his best day and Joe's worst day. But the Nats can
hit, and that is always something.

Dodgers or Nats, I really like the matchups for us in general, esp with Lester getting to go in games 1 and 5 and Hendricks in games 2 & 6.

Strasburg out for the NLCS if the Nationals advance.

Maddon announced Lester as the game 1 starter. He did not commit to who will pitch game 2, though he is leaning Hendricks.

Dodgers up 1, Jensen pulled after throwing around 50 pitches. Kershaw coming in to close out the Nats in the 9th. Runners on 1st and 2nd with Daniel Murphy digging in.

October baseball. Gotta love it.

Maddon basically said it will be Hendricks as long as he's not suffering any after effects from the linedrive to his wrist.

Everybody is freaking out about Kershaw coming into the ninth on 1 day of rest, but what about Jansen pitching 2.1 innings without giving up a run after not pitching that long all year? To me, he and Urias were the big story for the Dodgers.

I don't think Kershaw's relief appearance will effect when he starts next. So the Dodgers's rotation will probably be:

1. Maeda
2. Kershaw
3. Hill
4. ? - I have to think it would be Urias now, but maybe Roberts does something weird and pitches Maeda on three days rest.
5. Maeda, probably, or maybe Kershaw on short rest again.
6. Kershaw probably
7. Hill probably

Their rotation will be so interesting to follow. Maeda will more than likely start game 1, but after that it is murky. If Kershaw tosses game 3, he is on 3 days rest from his start on Wednesday and 2 from his relief appearance Thursday. Either way, it's better than seeing him at 4 days rest.

I'm wondering if they add a SP to their NLCS roster, given their usage. We shall see.

Hopefully this is a payback series for 2008's NLDS.

One roster change for the Cubs: Rob Zastryzny for Tommy La Stella. Another lefty arm (Dodgers struggle mightily versus lefties) swapped for a non-factor since he returned from his sabbatical.

In game 1 news, Buster Olney reports that Enrique Hernandez will start for LA tonight.

Odd. I'm a lot more calm tonight than I was for Game 1 against the Giants, even if they do lose. Maybe that will change around game time. I don't necessarily feel more confident that they'll win this series vs last year, but winning the one series surely took some of the nerves out of me.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I'm with you. The series being 7 games certainly helps my anxieties a bit.

I'm a bit nervous about all our pitching changes. I feel like we should have left Lester in. I guess we'll see.
