Extremely small sample size, but D Fowler's projected WAR is quite impressive also....

In each of the first 2 games, Fowler has had the same number of total bases as the entire Angles team. :D

I am sure thats a reasonable expectation. I however do not expect reasonable this year. I expect unreal results. Id like to see 20 or more wins in that time frame. If it happens awesome! If not, whatever.

Playing .833 ball for 15% of the regular season schedule is not rational to expect or hope for in my opinion. This team is still very young and will go through rough patches like every team does. If they win 100 games it will be a fantastic year playing in this division. I'll take 16 wins and be happy with a god solid start.

Oh I know. I just choose to hope for that. It doesnt or wont disappoint me if it doesnt happen though. Winning 100 games would be fantastic and I actually expect at least that. We won 97 last year and did nothing but upgrade. As well as all of our rookies are now second year players.

Yeah, I was looking for the affiliate guide yesterday but all I could find was the list from last year. Here's my best guess on some of these channels based on last year. FYI - I would be in mediacom territory just outside of Champaign.

If the game is listed as ABC7 (WLS) in Chicago, it is likely on WCIX. For me this is channel 3.2.
If the game is listed as WGN Chicago, it is likely on WBIU (CW). For me this is channel 23.1.
If the game is on Comcast Sports Net (CSN) Chicago, I believe that is your only option. In my area this is mediacom QAM channel 55.15. It looks like CSN+ is mediacom QAM channel 58.6. Since NBC Sports has the same ownership as Comcast Sport Net, I was hoping the NBC Sports streaming options would add CSN games (cable/satellite login required), but so far no luck.
If the game is on ESPN/ESPN2 you can stream the game on a variety of devices, provided you have a cable/satellite login. ESPN is QAM Channel 55-5 on mediacom around here, ESPN2 is 55-13.

Not sure if this was discussed here, but there was a class action lawsuit against MLB.TV that reached a settlement recently. It looked like there may eventually be hope for them offering a streaming option for in-market games (i.e. no blackouts) on MLB.TV. Unfortunately that day isn't here yet.

Thanks for your help!

A buddy of mine also mentioned that T-Mobile is giving their customers a free year of MLB.TV premium and it doesn't count against your data plan. So - enjoy if you are with them.

Is an MLBtv premium package still subject to blackouts? Or is that for the smaller packages?

I don't have much room to complain compared to some of you guys. I have cable. I have all the channels that carry the games. I'm not subject to blackouts.

Still, the first 10 or 12 Cubs games are being carried on 5 different channels. That's ridiculous. Hopefully much of this will be sorted out when the CSN contract expires, and all the games that aren't on national broadcasts will be broadcast in the same place.

At home you dont. Neither do I. Living in Denver, I get every single Cubs game. However, I am on a business trip to Chicago right now, staying in a hotel that doesn't get the local sports channels. Because of blackout restrictions, IN CHICAGO, I can't watch the game on my personal devices. Absurd.

It's unreal and a joke man... I've lived in central Illinois in Decatur my whole life, so watching the games was never a problem. Got every single one of them.

And now I attend school at SIUe and am not able to get any of the games, in addition to them being blacked out with an mlb tv subscription. I'm in Edwardsville, Illinois for god's sake.

So, I have to stream all the games on a crappy laptop feed. It's going to make me go crazy lol.

Are there any Cubs fans in Edwardsville? I would think it would be dominated by Cardinal fans.

I remember days when a 3 run deficit felt like it was way too much to recover from.

Now they end up scoring 14.

Kyles injury doesn't look good but as long as it isn't season ending should be fine.

Kyle Schwarber diagnosed with ankle sprain after outfield collision

The Cubs have since announced Schwarber has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle. X-rays were negative and will go for an MRI on Friday to make sure nothing else is wrong structurally.

I'm hoping for the best here. Thankfully Fowler wasn't hurt on the play. He's more important to the team than Schwarber at this early stage of the season.

My dubbing of this team has murderers row is holding true so far. Might be the best lineup I can remember in my time of watching baseball. -it's early, I know.

How many runs will the Cubs score this year?

1,000 (6.17/game) - Since 1930, 6 teams have scored this much. Three of those teams were the Ruth, Gehrig, Dickey, Lazzeri Yankees of '30-'32. A fourth was the DiMaggio, Gehrig, Dickey, Lazzeri Yankees of '37. Ted Williams' and Bobby Doer's Red Sox did it in 1950. So did the 1999 Indians, with Thome, Manny Ramirez, Bobby Alomar, Omar Vizquel, Kenny Lofton, David Justice, and - one would assume - one whole hell of a bunch of steroids.

900 (5.56/game) - Since the end of the steroid era (1996-2005), only four teams have surpassed 900 runs. The '06, '07, and '09 Yankees and the '08 Rangers.* The last Cubs teams to surpass 900 runs were the '29 and '30 teams of Rogers Hornsby, Hack Wilson, Gabby Hartnett, Kiki Kuyler, and Riggs Stevenson.**

800 (4.94/game) - Since 1931, the Cubs have scored 800 runs twice - 1998 (Sosa, Hank Rodriguez, and Grace) and 2008 (Aramis, Lee, Soriano, DeRosa, Soto and crazy-good years from Edmunds, Fontenot and Theriot).

I think that 800 is virtually assured (need to score 4.85 runs/game after the barrage of the first three games) and 900 is within reach. (Last year's Blue Jays just missed getting 900, by the way.) 1,000 would make the Cubs one of the 10 or so greatest offensive teams of all time. That would be crazy awesome to witness, but I doubt it happens.

* How many drugs were those '09 Yankees on? Age followed by OPS: Posada, 37, .885; Jeter, 35, .871; Rodriguez 33, .933; Damon 35, .854; Matsui, 35, .876. Not to mention 194 innings out of 37 year old Andy Pettite and a 1.76 ERA out of 39 year old Rivera. Rodriguez and Melky Cabrera were the only guys on that team later suspended for steroids, but that's a lot of old guys being very productive.

** One of the biggest "what ifs" in Cubs history has to be what if the '29-'32 Cubs could have ever had Hartnett, Hornsby and Wilson all healthy/sober at the same time. They never had more than 2 of 3, but still got to two World Series and missed a third by 2 games.

One thing I've found particularly interesting is the amount of walks that have been taken and the effect it has on pitch counts. Of course tiny sample size, but in the 3 games the Cubs pitches seen versus thrown are:

188/109
119/124
195/124

In 2015, the average team saw 145 pitches/night with the most being the Red Sox, at 152.5/game, with the Cubs right behind at 152.1. Of course, I expect the pitch counts to moderate over the course of the season, but it seems especially beneficial for a team of young hitters to see more pitches early in the season (extended batting practice!)
