Welcome to the Cubs Eddie Butler or: How Willson Contreras picked Fowler off and finished with hitting two bombs.

Good thing that toss down to first on the strikeout didn't end up costing the Cubs. My thought it was an error on Rizzo but Wade Davis slams the door shut. What a great pickup that was.

Given the string of injuries the Cubs are dealing with, Ian Happ might get the call to the show.

He did and he did pretty well for himself. Had a walk and two run homer. Not sure what else he did. His first AB was a called third strike which really was a ball.

Man, Cubbies just stink. It's still early but I'm wondering if they'll be able to put it together this year.

Nobody besides Bryant is hitting. The only regular other than Bryant with an OPS+ over 89 is Rizzo, putting up a very disappointing 97.

They're 8th in the league in runs despit the fact that Bryant is having another MVP caliber season.

They're also 13th in errors and 14th in fielding percentage.

Despite Arrieta's troubles, the pitching has actually been pretty good. 4th in the league in runs given up. 3rd in earned runs.

It wouldn't have solved all of their problems, but I felt like letting Dexter walk was a bad move. The numbers from the last two years with Dexter and without Dexter were pretty telling. Say what you want about advanced metrics, but there's something valuable about having a "true" leadoff guy at #1 every game, especially a guy everyone likes, such as Dexter.

While he would be preferable to what we've seen so far this season, Dexter is not exactly having a banner year.

Not really sure it's accurate to say they "let him walk"

Pierce Johnson just got called up, which now means that every first round pick of the Epstein/Hoyer era is now currently on the big league roster except for Paul Blackburn, who was part of the Mike Montgomery trade, is still only 23, and is playing for Oakland's AAA team, making him a pretty good bet to be called up at some point this year.

Another opposite field home run for Bryant. lol.

He may be starting to take more balls the other way, which is a necessary adjustment for him. If he can do that more consistently, look out. Maybe he can teach Javy Baez.

Wade Davis with his first runs given up of the year. Got a fortunate called third strike to end it.

Montgomery really looks like he's taking on that Devenski/Miller elite long-man role. You don't often see the 4 inning save in this day and age.

Still not sure what to think of Butler, but he's getting people out.

Schwarber is just brutal right now. I think he needs a couple days off to get his approach back. It's tough sitting one of Javy, Happ or Jay to let him play.

Honest question for the Cubs fans on here...

With how his hitting has been going thus far this season, do you think the Cubs should consider sending Schwarber to Iowa? If for no other reason, then just to clear his head and focus on getting better at the plate.
