There are going to be a lot of jobs coming available in the next year or 2. There are old coaches that have to retire at some point like Tom Izzo, Jim Larranaga, and Leonard Hamilton, there are teams that gave an interim guy a shot with poor results following like Texas and West Virginia, and there are teams not happy with the records like Michigan, Ohio State, Villanova, Oklahoma State, Louisville, etc. You hear rumors of guys like Self and Few thinking about retiring.
You may not be able to land any of those jobs, but those jobs create one hell of a carousel, which will open even more great jobs. I don't see why any successful head coach would touch DePaul. Even since the new Big East was created, DePaul has been in the bottom 2 every season. They don't have the NIL, they don't have the fan support or facilities, they don't have the reputation. They simply can't compete in the Big East. They'd be wise to look at joining the MVC or MAC. There at least they could build some wins and try to get some goodwill going towards the program.
To me, only an assistant should take the DePaul job. For an assistant it's likely a pay raise, and an opportunity with minimal downside. You're probably not expected to win, but if you do? If you don't, you can probably get a head job at a mid-major on the rebound, or you go right back to being an assistant at a big school. If you're an up and coming mid-major head coach, you take the job, fail, now you may have tarnished that up and coming status. You may have to step back into the assistant ranks after. I'd wait for one of the multitude of better jobs to open and just try to get a raise from current school instead.
