Not an Insider but pretty sure I remember Indy saying yesterday that he’s most likely headed to Oklahoma St. or at least they’re interested in him.
It's more about donors not paying taxes on what they commit for funding. Being a 501c3 opens up the door for a lot of additional $s.They're listed as an LLC on their website and it has a .com domain, so I would presume they are not currently a non-profit.
But what's their tax liability anyway? Don't they just distribute all the money that comes in to athletes? Maybe that's wrong and they're sitting on a taxable kitty of funds, like I said yesterday, it's a weird kind of organization.
On the one hand Illinois is a state friendly to college athletes getting paid. On the other hand, it's very low down the list of states where college sports recruiting is at the top of the political agenda. Hopefully that doesn't cause problems.
(The idea that we may someday live in a world where deep red Southern states repeal their right-to-work laws because State U is losing football recruiting battles is the funniest thing in the entire world. God I love college football)
If Underwood left after this season (certainly hope he doesn't, but we all know any good AD has a list in the drawer of candidates in case your current coach leaves), DeVries would be very high at the top of my personal list. At the very least, he would be the top of the list that starts after taking a couple of big swings at any candidates at Power 6 schools. But honestly, at this time I'm not sure anyone that Illinois could realistically poach from another power conference school interests me as much as DeVries (even before factoring that his kid could follow him).Yes ... He's in play at OK State but I do not think he is the leader ...
I am honestly shocked he is not getting more buzz ... All he has done is win at Drake ...

Got to tour Rice with my squad this year. Whole staff was very hospitable, spent a couple minutes talking to my players. Even had a current player talk with our guys for about 30 minutes about being a D1 athlete and what a D1 work ethic looks like. Obviously they’re all super busy and didn’t have to do that.
I get the feeling Michigan is oblivious to the public perception of their athletic antics, especially with regards to bad behavior (Juwan), rule-breaking (Harbaugh) and using loopholes to their advantage (cancelling tough games to win a B1G Basketball regular season *championship.)I obviously would have lost my over/under bet on Juwan Howard (I set the termination announcement deadline at 4 PM ET yesterday).
Any rumors/news about what Michigan is thinking yet? It's inconceivable to me that they would keep him around another year given the on-court results and off-court behavior. I have to think Michigan could have negotiated a fraction of Juwan's buyout by threatening to terminate him for cause after the Sanderson incident.
I don’t think they’re oblivious. I think they just don’t care. One implies ignorance. The other arrogance. The latter is worse to me.I get the feeling Michigan is oblivious to the public perception of their athletic antics, especially with regards to bad behavior (Juwan), rule-breaking (Harbaugh) and using loopholes to their advantage (cancelling tough games to win a B1G Basketball regular season *championship.)
I sincerely hope Michigan does keep Howard around. I don't believe things get markedly better with him at the helm. He inherited a good situation and has pile-driven it. I get Michigan likely gives zero s***s about public perception, but any AD who is objective can't look at that situation in totality and say, "Yep, things are trending up. Carry on!"I get the feeling Michigan is oblivious to the public perception of their athletic antics, especially with regards to bad behavior (Juwan), rule-breaking (Harbaugh) and using loopholes to their advantage (cancelling tough games to win a B1G Basketball regular season *championship.)

Indy, are you Coaching Changes on Twitter or one of his sources? Or maybe he just reads this forum.I have gotten quite a few messages about Louisville today ...
Here is what I know for a fact:
Drew met with Louisville people today ... They offered him 9.5 per year ... 5 million per year of NIL ...
They have a donor who is willing to pony up BIG for Drew ... Other coaches will not get anywhere near that salary and likely closer to 4 million NIL ...
Drew is "thinking on it" ... It is definitely in play for him ...
Pat Kelsey has met with Louisville ... I personally have a relationship with Pat ... He confirmed the meeting ... I will keep the rest of the details private per his wishes ...
Schertz has met with them as well ... Just a quicker meeting ... He asked me to keep details private but that I could share that they met ...
Jerome Tang will meet with Louisville sometime this weekend ... Zoom meeting is likely vs. in person but subject to change ... He is in play but think he is outside the top 3 ...
Mick Cronin is 2nd on their list ... They are currently working BTS to figure out a way around the buyout due to legislation of the contract being signed when UCLA was a member of Pac 12 and now that they are Big 10 some of/if not all of that buyout should be null and void ... I think they will have to pay some of that buyout but my sources tell me it should be reduced for any team interested ... Cronin has also stated he would be willing to take less money up front in order to pay off said buyout ...
Dusty May has long been involved with Louisville... They know where each other stands ... They have talked a handful of times already ... He wants more NIL ...
This one is going to be interesting ...
Side note: I can't say enough how much I enjoy getting all of your guy's messages and talking hoops, recruiting, coaching carousel, X&O ... And sometimes even some more personal stuff that people on here share with me ... It's awesome ... Never hesitate to reach out ...
I feel like you deserve a hugAs a teacher in Texas, I can only hope.
Do you think Gottlieb is under real consideration. At this point they can't get worse so might as well try to catch lightning in a bottle.Yes ... He's in play at OK State but I do not think he is the leader ...

If you are trying to read the tea leaves, is Anderson's leaving Michigan after 12 years to come to Illinois a sign that Howard is going to be back at Michigan next year? Clearly Anderson would have insider access to Howard's status and after what happened between him and Howard there is no way he would want to remain there if the Howard clown show was going to continue for at least another season. We obviously are the beneficiaries of both Anderson's arrival and of Howard's staying on as coach, so this is a win for the ILLINI. But why Michigan's Athletic Director would allow Howard to remain is mystifying given the damage that his continued presence does to the exalted Michigan brand and its basketball program. Just Maize and Blue arrogance, I guess.I am conflicted on Howard staying as Michigan's coach. On one hand we have his number and he is a poor coach that will keep Michigan down. However his conduct and actions should not be acceptable for a head coach at any level and should be fired.

@insiders, how much longer do you think Izzo will coach?

I feel he has more to prove at Loyola, it would be interesting to see what a typical MSU fan's reaction to that hire would be. I think he's a great coach thoIt’s a good question … I think maybe 2 year ?? But it wouldn’t shock me if he was done after this year honestly …
Valentine has as good of a shot as anyone to replace him … And there’s not been much buzz on him this off season and I’m beginning to question if that is why …
I am not coaching changes on Twitter …
There are multiple people who run and contribute to that account … Those people talk to me pretty often …
I talk to “Trilly Donovan” as you all know the account … On the daily …
Plus all my coaching contacts … AAU contacts … Scouting contacts … Etc.
Most of those people read what’s posted here … As do the boys at Sleepers … And Jeff Goodman …
Even though they’ll all deny it …
That's true, and the website does describe donations as "charitable" without elaborating on the tax status.
But a 501(c)(3) (or other type of 501 organization) can engage in taxable transactions, the non-profit status only applies to activities within the tax-exempt scope.
The contract law thing with Mick Cronin is an area I actually have some degree of expertise, this is more me talking out of my behind, but it's interesting stuff.
