I've continued to think about that from our convo ... And the name that keeps coming to mind ...

College Basketball No GIF by NCAA March Madness
This just seems like too good of a fit for it not to happen. Pearl and UK would be perfect for each other.

Bottom line, to me, is this could not be happening at a worse time. I feel our transfer portal and everything is going to go to s*@t if our coaching staff is still up in the air in any ways. I sure hope I'm wrong.

NIL has also began to really cause parity in coaching as well. Since everyone can basically pay their players, Kentucky has no real allure as it once did when they had a more sophisticated network of paying under the table than most other teams.

Teams are now matching salary and NIL funds, so why go to a place where it is almost impossible to satisfy the fan base and boosters, especially when you have no real advantage over the competition. Maybe someone wants it for the ego or to put it on the resume, but it's not an inherent advantage to be coaching Kentucky as it once was.

And has he missed on an in state kid that we just had to have ? You could argue Liddell maybe ... Other than that ?

He got Ayo, Ace, Morez ... We had Jeremy Fears and chose to pass ... We're getting Jeremiah ...

When is the last time IU (who considers themselves a blue blood) did that ... Shoot Arch got Romeo but outside of him when is the last time they even got the best player in their state to stay home ???

What Brad has done in state is pretty remarkable ...
I think Steward, Buzelis & Christie are the only top 30 that have gotten away period.

...which also says something about the state of IL hoops that those are the top 30ish prospects that have come out of it the last 8 years.

This is a difficult and problematic question, and that is exactly why the best practice is to not allow the situation to develop in the first place.

It's common in college sports, it isn't just us. But if I were running the DIA there would be a simple, clean, no-exceptions anti nepotism policy.
Yeah, … state employees, and all …

Kentucky
UK is done with the MFer-type, the general consensus of their fanbase is they want someone who can build a program. And yes, I wrote that about UK.

I know that sounds odd to say about UK, but they got so far away from being Kentucky basketball with Cal that they want someone who can bring them back to the ethos of who they are. Albeit building a program differently, using the portal, and a school-first program-centric mentality.

They basically are looking for the men's basketball equivalent of Matthew Mitchell, who is still loved around here and flew under the radar due to the Cal smugness on campus and within the athletic department. For those who do not have to live in BBN, which for the past 15 years has been brutal being an Illini, Mitchell built that program, sustained it, and was able to "exit well and be able to say we left it in a really good spot for the people that came behind us."

That bolded quote was spoken by Barnhart from the very cringe meeting that was broadcast just days before Cal being tied to Arkansas, and it speaks volumes of who Barnhart and UK will target and eventually want to lead the severely eroded UK men's basketball program.

His dad doesn't have him sitting next to him every game for emotional support.
He has him sitting next to him because he is his son.
And I am fine with that.
But Head Coach in Waiting? at Illinois? He is not even an assistant. How old is he?
I know it was asked as a hypothetical, I just found that funny to even consider... at a program like Illinois.

He is an assistant. He’s just not a full time recruiting assistant, although by the sound of it he did take a few recruiting trips last year while one of the other coaches remained on campus.

JMHO, but, if I were UK, and had all the $$$ they say they have to spend, I would make a deal so sweet that it would be nearly impossible for Billy Donovan to say no.
