I don't care what Nebraska pays Hoiberg. That's their problem. Maybe the info is wrong but this is what I read. Also, I believe I said success in tourney would take care of the conference đź’©. If your having success in the tourney you winning the required games for gosh sakes!

  • Rank in Coach Pay: At $4.7 million this season, Underwood's compensation is eighth among college basketball's highest-paid coaches at public schools, according to USA TODAY.

Yet he will be criticized for it by many on here. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but over the last couple of weeks weren't you proposing if this exact scenario happens JW should just let BU walk?

He is the 14th highest paid coach, not top 10. Only makes $50k more that Fred Hoiberg for gosh sakes. How much of BU's salary is coming out of your pocket? You do know that conference wins are a requirement to make the tourney right?
For the last 2-3 years at least he’s been a top 10 paid coach and I’m sure he is angling for a raise cuz he’s probably not happy about some guys jumping ahead of him as far as salary. FYI I don’t care what Fred Hoiberg is making compared to Underwood I’m not a Nebraska fan and don’t really care if they spend their money foolishly.

SEC begs to differ.

Im curious to see where our portal guys end up if just to see how other teams / programs evaluate them. Who were other contenders for Booth last treat, where does he go, etc

Texas would have to pay almost $26 million for BU per buyout. I believe 3rd highest in college bball, that's a chunk of change even for Texas. Especially, for a sport that is not football.

I will feel great if we have a return core of MJ, TI and KB. In this day and age, 3 returning is about all you can hope for!

Who’s excited to finally see the Illini get revenge against Kentucky for the phantom foul call at Rupp Arena in the Mid-east Regional Final? Let’s go!!!!

There are quite a few Texas boosters that want to gauge the interest of Self and Underwood ...

But can they afford to wait on Brad if we keep winning and risk ticking off Sean ... I don't think so ...
Bill Self? Why don't they ask Donavan instead?

I’m curious too. But glad to hear some indication in this direction. I was concerned it might be the opposite if boosters were frustrated with some of the lows this year.
All will be forgotten if Fighting Illini make the Sweet 16

Gonna be a really nice hire for Iowa, curious to see how it goes though. Their fanbase is saying he's already a top coach in the country. Stirz will be a nice starting point.
Stirtz is a really good player. If he were an inch or two taller the B1G wouldn’t be the highest league calling.
I’m just not sure that’s enough to move the needle a lot at Iowa. They’ve had Bennett Stirtz types. As much as I’ve loved to hate Fran, he can really coach offense… Is McCollum that much of an upgrade?

just that he seems to be on everyone's list during coaching searches
Yeah, just teasing ya. But one thing I'm not as convinced of as most people, it seems, is the idea that no pro coach would deign to become a college coach.

Now seems like a quite good time for that, what with college coaches' salaries ballooning, budgets expanding, staffs expanding, boosters' contributions increasing, etc.

It would not at all shock me to hear that a mega booster of school ABC ponied up XYZ million mega bucks to help lure Coach Supreme away from the pros and its prima donnas that he despises trying and failing to teach.

College coaching can have its advantages over pros.

Budgets would have to expand a lot… Bill Self & Calipari are the only college coaches making 8 million or more a year. They’ve top 10 NBA coaches are all over 8 million. Pop & Kerr make over 2X that.
NBA coaches also get an off-season. When you have to re-recruit your whole team every year, that’s not really a thing in college anymore.
Everyone in the NBA has world class facilities & travel in luxury. Even the worst teams wouldn’t have a problem getting their team a hotel for a couple of days… (see Willard’s comments on Maryland’s accommodations)
