I only half-joke when I say this, but I don't know if these agents even know when their clients have games going on. Their jobs don't really require it.

In this hypothetical, why would Illinois searching for a coach in April harm their process compared to now? If Texas benefits from waiting for buyouts to lower, Illinois would have the same benefit.

  1. Limited Candidate Pool – By April, most top candidates will have already been hired elsewhere or secured extensions with their current schools. The best coaches are typically scooped up early in the cycle.
  2. Recruiting & Roster Management Issues – A late search means Illinois would risk losing recruits and current players to the transfer portal. With the new portal windows, uncertainty around coaching staff can lead to an exodus of talent.
  3. Staff & Infrastructure Delays – A late hire means the new coach will have less time to assemble their staff, evaluate the roster, and implement their system before summer workouts begin.
  4. Increased Competition – If Illinois waits until April, they could be competing with other big programs making late moves, such as Texas in this scenario. That could force them to settle for a second-tier candidate instead of having the leverage they do now.

- Re-recruit current players
- Recruit portal players
- Recruit HS players

- Moving quickly to get new HC and staff in place gives them chance to do these things before everybody is committed to elsewhere. That is why coaches were let go prior to end of season or right after end of regular season.

- Replacing Brad and his staff would be major step backwards for program. Replacing a bad coach coming off terrible season and weak roster (ie Weber and Groce terminations) there is not a lot of downside. Replacing a coach who has been to NCAA 6 straight years including elite 8 last year, a current #6 seed, and possible strong returning roster - Tomi, Kylan, Morez, Tre, DGL, Ben, Jake, Jason, Ty(?) plus incoming Brandon Lee, Keaton Wagler.

Do any of you people think Brad contacted Josh for the job he has or vice versa? indy would love to see Sean Miller at Illinois. There are very few people who would turn down a new job if they wanted it.

It might have been said earlier, but Will Wade probably accepted his next job a bit prematurely, and could have held out for a better spot.

This is the coming battle within basketball coach negotiation. Which schools are going to be willing to up the ante in revenue share? Which schools have enough donor appetite to fill in the gaps (and go beyond)? Will programs without football have a big advantage because they'll be the top dog for revenue share?

Very true - Iowa unwillingness to commit revenue share to basketball probably cost them home state legacy DeVries. Iowa football program is probably going to take most of revenue share.

Illini 10-3 bowl winners. hard to believe. If we can repeat this we can be a football school like in the 80's under Mike White. Next thing you know we will be expanding Memorial stadium to get back to 76,000 seats.

Maybe we can bring the :chief: back. If NCAA tries to stop us Trump can pull their tax exempt status and block any legislation to help them solve NIL/portal transfer problems.

Probably a better buy-out difference than getting out of marriage unless you have a prenuptial agreement.
