he better improve this season, because if we have the same season we had last year, Brad and Hamer are going to be looking for a new job.
Wanna bet? Brad is locked in for however long Brad wants to be locked in for. It would have to be a complete meltdown of epic proportions and the trajectory (recruiting) of the program would have to be taking a nose dive. That's obviously not happening.

I laugh when people criticize last year as being a disaster. Yes, a 6 seed, a tournament win and a loss versus Kentucky......just awful.

Finally, try to understand.....Brad has forgotten more about basketball that 95% of this board will ever know. If he sees something in a coach he likes, I'm sure there's good reason.

Depends upon the questions you ask. For example: Brad's salary is top 10 in the NCAA. How many seasons have we seen top 10 level results? Did we look like we were led by top 10 level coaches last season?

That's great. How many data points do you have on Josh Whitman, University of Illinois, and Brad Underwood's tenure, with the amount of money put into this program?

Oh, none? So then your opinion has no more validity than mine.
I happen to agree with his opinion more than yours, but agree with this post and the sentiment behind it more than almost anything ever posted on here. Most things on here are just opinions, and they should all be treated and respected as such.

I, respectfully, disagree with the bolded portion. Some opinions are not worthy of respect. If someone says the Earth is flat, I’m under no obligation to respect that person or his position. Likewise, when someone suggests the co-winningest coach in the B1G the last six years who’s recruiting at a level never seen before at Illinois is on the hot seat, I feel no obligation to respect that opinion either.

What has been our average roster cost over the last few years? Have we been top 5? Top 10? Our insiders want to tell us that we are, but it sure seems questionable relative to the numbers tossed out for players at other programs. But even assuming we have a "top 10" payroll, how does an elite 8 followed by a round of 32 featuring a young, injured group of Illini lead to any data point that would presume Underwood's name should come up on a hot seat list? Even if we continue to ignore that Underwood's last 6 years have been at the very top of the B1G, there are not any data points that would suggest we are underperforming overall, even last year. We were young. We were injured. We didn't have any roster continuity. THAT is the only negative we could point to right now, but hello... it is the exact same story EVERYWHERE in today's NCAA.

Put me in the camp that is happy to see Underwood developing young assistants. The Hamer thing, based almost exclusively on one insider's negative opinion, is ridiculous. We have 5 assistants. Credit/blame being bandied about so heavily on our 5th assistant is... wut? Particularly coming off a year where we BATTLED.

We are going to have ANOTHER good year next year! Most likely in the conversation as a top 20 team all season, with eyes focused on getting to the round of 16 or beyond. Talk of Underwood on the hot seat is made up. Plain and simple.

"Respect my hot take that offers no valid data points to support it, while ignoring the myriad of data points offered to me that oppose my point of view" is not going to generally be a well received opinion.

Yep, and just assembled another really good team this offseason that has a chance to be one of his best teams yet.
We said this last year and settled for less. I agree with both sides of this debate. Our floor has definitely been raised by Brad, but will our ceiling rise?

Jmo, we keep comparing Brad’s success to past failure, however, please keep in mind none of his predecessors could “legally” cheat. He does have a weapon the others didn’t. Now there is no reason ($) we can’t play with the big boys vs the past bagman days.
