I loathe Alford, and I loathe Indiana. I'm selfishly hoping he jumps to Indiana, to further the trail of fan bases that loathe him, while at the same time creating the uberloathing team where I can plant my flag for the next 10 years.

Same. Since we now live in a universe where NU making the tournament (and almost the SS) is a thing, then that universe needs to have an uberloatheable IU.

virginia has absolutely no fight tonight... makes me wonder if players caught wind of an impending coaching change

My soft predictions

Marshall stays put, as does Archie. Alford, realizing his stock is at an all-time high, bolts for Indiana. Crean takes his craziness to Oklahoma State or California.

To me that sounds absurd. I'm not trying to flame but IU has been no better than UI cumulatively over the last 30 years. IU is still the higher profile / better job but it's not the creme de la creme of NCAA basketball (no offense).

You are right in part. It's one of the best jobs. Just not best programs. We have everything to be elite except a coach. Facilities are top notch booster and fan support are there. For the last 25 years all we have lacked is the coach. And one of the highest recruitment budgets in the country.

Donovan wanted to come 2 years ago but Creans buyout was 12 million and he sold Glass some snake oil. Donovan wants to be somewhere that basketball is the primary issue. He thought that would be the NBA but he was wrong. It's about catering to superstars to make headlines. He Only left Florida because the AD broke promises about facility upgrades btw.

Will I say it's happening yet. No. But it's intriguing. Plus he can be a legend if he comes back to college and wins multiple titles. A feat that maybe never gets matched.

Hope not. Crean has more supporters than Alford. Every single person who has broke news on message boards is saying Donovan.

Not targeting this to you, but that seems like an incredible reach. If Glass thought that the likes of Donovan and Stevens were in play, then why fire Crean now and not till after Jul 1, saving $3MM? Seems very, very improbable that guys like that would leave before June.

And at least with Donovan, why would he walk away from a $6MM/yr contract with three years remaining? I don't think he has any special ties to IU or the area which could make the job a dream one. While still being incredulous, I'd be more inclined to think Stevens (possible it's his dream job + family location) would be an option than Donovan.

My guess - Glass is pulling a Whitman and putting out smoke screens until Marshall is out of the tourney.

I think this is a great year for Marshall to move on. While he could coach anywhere in the country and be successful, he should stay in the Big 12 or hit the Big 10. I'd put money on Indiana. OSU has an effed up athletic department and doesn't know what to do with basketball. They were extremely fortunate to have Eddie Sutton all those years and have been a debacle since he retired.

Marshall is the best fit IMO. He can coach and IU will recruit well if they win

Creans buyout is offset by his next job meaning we are unlikely to pay anything anyway. Plus boosters and the board of trustees were concerned about the toxic nature of Crean.

Glass met with Boosters the night before firing Crean. Probably to make sure that's what they wanted and to get money for his next coach.

The general consensus is we will probably paying him 6 million a year also. And IU might be his dream job in that it's a basketball school. One of his big complaints at Florida was that Basketball came 3rd he actually wanted to come to IU 2 years ago before he went to the NBA but Crean buyout was 12 million at the time.

Plus there have been reports that he dislikes the NBA. And dislikes coaching Westbrook because Westbrook isn't coachable.

Still a big if but if in 2 weeks no announcement we will know.

I can't think of a single example of an NBA coach willingly leaving to go back down to college.

Donovan hasn't been interested in taking the beaten path. He chose Florida when it wasn't the cool place to be and accepted the challenge of coaching millionaires at OKC. He may be interested in coaching in college again, but wonder if wants to coach in the storied and crazy environment of Hooville.

yeah, I don't get this storyline. Donovan went from HC at Marshall to a high major school that went to a final four 2 years ago to an NBA team that was 1 game away from the finals featuring 2 of the top 10 players in the league.

Even now with OKC, you have Westbrook (now a top 5 player and signed for 2 more years), a good young second option (Oladipo), and some athletic bigs (Adams, Kanter, Sabonis). That's not really top 3 seed quality right now, but it's good enough to compete every night and build a 5+ year NBA career.

I'm not surprised that Indiana would want Donovan. I'd be surprised if he left OKC in the middle of their playoff run to go to Indiana.

Good choice, although he's now a little long in the tooth. :)

So is that program. It's been 30 years since they have been relevant. Yet, they think it's down to Stevens, Donovan and the good Lord.Gimme a break. Hoosier fans need to get a 3 way going with Yankee fans, Nebraska football fans and IU BB to see who is more disallusioned. :D

Rick Pitino has quite the head start on Donovan for that particular accomplishment.

Avery Johnson could have had another NBA gig if he had wanted.

Cal stays in college despite constant NBA offers. He's choosing college over NBA.

Westbrook is leaving for LA. Plus Westbrook isn't a player that is coached.
