Coaching Carousel

Maybe Archie will decommit from coaching at IU and move to OSU, sending IU into a tailspin as they grope frantically for a coach for next season.

That would be good fun!

Shocked. I thought it was going to be a "last season" type deal. This is going to hamstring tOSU MBB.

Wow. This is a nightmare for them - would have been a hugely in-demand job when the Carousel was running.

Being this late, wonder if they go the promote from within route.

Was thinking that myself. Maybe give their top assistant the job as an interim for this season so they can enter into the carousel next year? I guess that would be Dave Dickerson. Not sure how that would work with recruiting. It would give them some continuity with the guys that have already committed, but it would be tough to see them landing new guys with the staff's fate up in the air.

I agree. If I was a fan I would be sick. He is only 49 and has 400 wins. The question is why now?

The only reason I can think of is they have someone lined up, otherwise this is a real bonehead move.

In the press conference he mentioned that there were days he couldn't untie his shoes or take his pants off after games. I would say he thought long and hard before giving it up, but his health is not real good. I'm not sure what is causing that and am not going to speculate, but it sounds like he just physically could not do it any longer.

Hopefully he gets his health straightened out, for his and his family's sake.

If this had occurred much earlier, would you have been happy if he came to the Illini? Probably not likely due to his relationship with Groce, but just wondering.

No. He's being pushed out because of his health and its effect on their recruiting. No reason to believe he will find success anywhere else if that's the case.

Seriously could've been an alltime great--probably still is. For anyone who doesn't know this is his story wrt health.

I bet he finds work, though even being an assistant is probably not the best bet. In all seriousness, a role like Gentry was in would be interesting for him, but I'd bet a more front office-y job is in order.

I'm thinking that OSU hires someone from the Matta coaching tree. Someone who knows his system and has ties to Ohio. Preferably a driven individual trying to make it to the top of the coaching ladder
