Coaching Carousel

That's a a Groce idea.

:peace:

Could you imagine if Groce took a lead assistant type role with Thad? Could be on pace to be head coach at osu.

Archie got a top 5 job, but I wonder if he's pissed now. Could see him wanting the resources that come with being at osu.

Groce would still not be considered, even if he was the lead assistant. The Matta tree is not that deep so they will go outside and get a better coach.

There are some Florida insiders that are saying it's a done deal with Donovan...these same guys laughed at IU when they said he was going there. They say Urban back channeled it and that's why Smith made the move now.

Not saying I believe it, but it would explain the weird timing.

While it would be surprising, it would make sense. Thanks for post

This makes way more sense timing wise, than Donovan to IU. He also not gonna win a championship in okc as long as the warriors are the the best team ever. I also don't want him recruiting against us. "Hey kid, come be Russell Westbrook for us, I can show you how."

Man that would suck. I mean, the BIG is plenty competitive, even if we haven't had a really elite team in a couple seasons. Couple articles on his problems, and possible replacements.

Seriously could've been an alltime great--probably still is. For anyone who doesn't know this is his story wrt health.

I bet he finds work, though even being an assistant is probably not the best bet. In all seriousness, a role like Gentry was in would be interesting for him, but I'd bet a more front office-y job is in order.

Sorry to hear about his back problems. Sounds like a Steve Kerr situation. If I ever have back trouble, they would have to drag me kicking and screaming into the operating room.

I had back surgery in my mid 30's. Totally unable to work. Fixed me right up. Back to a normal, active life.

Glad that you had a successful outcome. I am sure that many do but I hear too many horror stories. Surgery would be the absolute last thing I would ever try.

If it does happen, I'd like to see someone argue the B1G doesn't have the best HC from the top down of any conf in the NCAA

Rising tide lifts all boats.

B1G would be loaded for sure. Recruits to follow the coaching. Would be a great period in the B1G!

Well I've heard that the key to successful back surgery is to have a neurosurgeon do it rather than an orthopedic surgeon.

It would be like the late 80's. Henson, Knight, Davis, Frieder, Keady, Heathcote, Haskins, Gary Williams. Lots of HoF coaches in there, and a couple that could be in the conversation.

i'm all for the B1G getting the best coaches available. makes the B1G more desirable to recruits, and to the UoI by association

A fly on the wall just told me a couple of interesting names on the AD's list at Ohio St / FRANK MARTIN / ED COOLEY

Brian Snow reporting Fred Hoiberg might be the guy.

Although more and more of the posters on there seem to think Urban Meyer has worked some magic on Billy Donovan.

But don't think it will be Sean Miller.

An insider overheard bobby buckeye and the illi-buck discussing Smiths desire to showcase a coachless team next year.
Sounds like a "Lord of the Flies" type OSU squad next year, which could be dangerously resilient theoughout the season.

Fantastic. Letting the inmates run the asylum usually works out for the best. What could go wrong?

I'd be ok with that. Should be at least one BIG win for us.

When a sought-after coach happens to move and puts his house on the market the same week another in-state coach gets let go (starting all kinds of rumors on both school's message boards.)
