"Hey, if he can't succeed in the SEC at TXAM, surely he can succeed in the SEC at TN... right guys?"

Currie. LOL.

As someone who lives in Tennessee, the mood is......mutiny.... like some of these folks are fully prepared for an armed revolt against the athletic department down in Knoxville. I cannot conceive of a world or possible parallel dimension, even, where Currie keeps his job.

Currie. LOL.

In fairness, he would be opposite Saban at Alabama, so there's a chance :D

Don't see many home run hires, so somebody is going to take a recycled coach.

TN should go after Neal Brown of Troy. Up and coming coach, was OC in SEC with Kentucky, and Troy beat LSU this year, which TN didn't do -- and TN had them at home.

Neal Brown, Mike Norvell, Chad Morris, Seth Littrell, there are a number of really promising offensive-minded young coaches ready to move up. All of those guys are better fits for Tennessee than Dave Doeren, Greg Schiano, David Cutcliffe or god help us Les Miles.

But the narratives of the coaching carousel have become so insane that anything but overpaying for a known name is an existential crisis for a program. And when you're Tennessee and you miss out on the couple of big fish in an overcrowded marketplace, that means willfully humiliating yourself for weeks in search of mediocre coaches who aren't great fits.

The four best hires in the SEC this decade had a combined two years of NCAA head coaching experience between them (Franklin at Vandy, Freeze at Ole Miss, Malzahn at Auburn and Smart at UGA). There's a lesson to be learned there.

Both with one year (back-to-back) at Arkansas State, the Tulsa basketball of college football coaches. Speaking of which, why in the world hasn't Bryan Harsin's name come up for any of these jobs? I'm sure it has, but I'm surprised that so many other guys seem to be ahead in the pecking order.

If someone nabs Taggart away from the Ducks, there's your guy. EDIT: I didn't realize Harsin was a Boise guy. Born, raised and played. That might be trickier than I thought.

Debated going with Bozo, Krusty or Baskets, but Shakes just seemed "right". Glad I'm not just amusing myself all the time.:)

I hope you're referring to the movie. If not....seek it out. It's bizarre, offensive, and oddly entertaining and satisfying. But that probably says more about me than I'd like.

Funny you should mention Harsin. I follow Oregon St. and on the bulletin boards during their recent coach search, there were quite a few people who did not want Harsin as a candidate. Most felt he wasn't that good of a coach and Boise St. has declined since he took over for Chris Petersen -- Petersen had them ranked in top 15 six of eight years, while they've only been ranked once (16th) in his four years. Harsin's best year was also his first year there with Petersen's recruits. I can't say I've seen Boise St. much to have an opinion.

Absolutely referring to the movie. Not a huge Bobcat fan but that film is pure classic. And the fact that I know (and love) both Shakes and Baskets the Clowns are says way too much about me.

The thing that surprises me most about the UT coaching search is just how public it's been. Granted they're gonna get a lot more attention cuz they're an SEC school and the Schiano fiasco, but man, we're getting the full play by play - Currie seems to be doing nothing (or is unable to do anything) to keep things under wraps.

In the latest news, they're talking to Mike Leach.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if this is being done on purpose by the other coaches and agents. Seems like coaches are a tight knit fraternity and I bet a majority of them were not happy with the way Schiano was treated. Agents in the know could be doing this on purpose to embarrass UT.

Just filed to ESPN: Tennessee has parted ways with AD John Currie on the heels of what has been a disastrous Tennessee coaching search. He met with university officials on Friday morning, and the decision was made then.

Sources: John Currie was prepared to hire Mike Leach but university officials wouldn’t allow him to do so. Phillip Fulmer has been sabotaging search process in hopes to become Tennessee’s AD

You know what would really be amazing - UT hires Fitz; Krzyzewski retires and Duke hires Collins. Then I would grab a seat at World of Beer in Evanston and fill my cup with the tears of Northwestern fans crying.

That would be completely awesome. Only because they once employed SATAN, I'm rooting for a Mike Thomas hiring as AD.

You do realize that Shakes the Clown was once described as the "Citizen Kane of the horror clown genre".

Lets show some respect for the performing arts.

Also from McMurphy:

Another source: Tennessee’s own people have been ambushing (John) Currie’s (coaching search). They shoot themselves in the foot, !!!! the gun & shoot themselves in the other foot. It’s been going on for a week"

I'm no fan of Currie, but at most he's only partially responsible for the dumpster fire. Schiano was chosen by Jimmy Haslam (biggest UT donor).

Jeff Brohm would have been a perfect hire with the bonus of sending Purdue back to the basement.

And in the ACC we have Dabo and Jimbo - no head coaching experience before they took over.
