Stevens and IU.

There's still a bit of wiggle room here, but I'm sure IU fans aren't thrilled. Not even a hat tip to their history or anything else.

Unfortunately for Doyel and the rest of the IU faithful, Stevens is staying in Boston. Marc Bertrand on 98.5 The Sports Hub asked Stevens point-blank Tuesday whether he was quitting the Celtics to go home to Indiana.

“I am not,” Stevens said.

Stevens, however, said he understands where the notion comes from, and he’s flattered.

“That’s nice of them. That’s really is,” he said. “That’s home, I get it. I appreciate all the nice sentiments. It certainly doesn’t go unnoticed, and it’s certainly very kind.”

If OA leaves for another job would a good candidate be Luther Powell, Jr. No I mean Roger Powell. If not who would be close to BU to come in? Have to find a good recruiter. I do hope OA stays aboard. BU has built a good strong staff around him. Give OA a big raise would help. His recruiting has really helped build the program.

its been quite awhile since any of the midwest/eastern seaboard traditionally urban catholic schools ala DePaul, St Johns, Georgetown, Marquette, et al , have had much relevance. Yea, I know about Loyola, and there will always be outliers, but back in the 1980's-1990's those schools were well coached and you heard about them all the time. Today? not so much. The ACC busted up the old Big East , and its never recovered .

Marquette was pretty relevant under Buzz Williams for almost a decade in the 00's and early 10's. 8 straight tournaments, culminating in an Elite 8 run as a 3 seed.

If he were going, he would still answer it the same way. But I don’t think it’s happening so the point is moot. 😁

Dave Paulsen out at George Mason, as an alum I’m curious to see what direction we head it

If he leaves there are guys out there. Off the top of my head I would start with this list.

Jerrance Howard, Kansas – 39 years old and Illinois Grad. Recruits the Midwest.

Matt Abdelmassih, Nebraska – 35 years old who worked at Iowa State

Nick Irvin, Western Illinois – former Morgan Park head coach who had both Ayo and Adam Miller on his roster.

Matt Grave, Xavier – 48 years old who worked at Butler for many years.

I think Jerrance and Nick Irvin would be better replacements if Chin leaves at some point.

Abdelmassih looks like a good recuiter with an east coast and midwest background. Not sure if he can coach up the big men like OA has.

Is Jerrance a candidate for the DePaul job?

Dakich said on his Podcast today he is thinking Steve Alford to IU.

On the Score this morning they were talking about this for quite a bit. They threw out another former Kentucky assistant, Kenny Payne. But said they didn't know if he would leave the Knicks as an assistant. Other names were Porter Moser and Dennis Gates.

Gates is what I have heard. Irvin might make an appearance as an AC.

Spoke to a few IU boosters today. They both said out of all the elite names that are being tossed out there (Beard, Drew, Musselman, etc.)

Two names that people are not taking seriously enough: Travis Steele & Dane Fife.

Let's just say they were not happy...

So you wonder if you could hate IU even more. Then they hire Travis Steal.

The Illini hit a grand slam 4 years ago by hiring BU to build the program. Perfect fit for the right program, he recruits only skilled, high character players who buy into the team concept, work hard, enjoy playing together, and make each other better. We did not know for sure he would deliver the results we have seen these past two seasons, but would not trade him now for any coach out there. Minnesota, Indiana, et al will not find his equal, so I feel good about out program going forward.
