At least in basketball, when was the last time a big ten coach was “poached” to another school outside the conference (ie at least a lateral if not a promotion hire without having a foot out the door already in the current school)? Belein is the most recent I can think of, but that was to the nba. Before that....self? Seems like it doesn’t happen in general to big ten basketball coaches.when is the last time , in Football or Mens Basketball, that a currently employed BigTen coach has poached by another school in the conference ?
I believe there is a "gentlemen's agreement" to not do that. We are not the SEC
I guess it could potentially happen to pj fleck. Maybe fitz but I’m guessing he’s only leaving nw for the nfl. Would’ve probably happened to kill if he didn’t have his health issues. But all those are speculation. At least in basketball, when was the last time a big ten coach was “poached” to another school outside the conference (ie at least a lateral if not a promotion hire without having a foot out the door already in the current school)? football I haven’t thought through fully yet. Beilema? O’Brien (though I think he had a hiatus before becoming an nfl coach)?
Same with Southern Ca....great place 15 years ago...but not a destination now. Apple built that giant Austin complex, now it's insane traffic and crazy.Cost of living out of sight. Traffic now worse than Dallas or Houston. Boosters always up your a**. Housing market highest around. Don’t think it is paradise anymore like it was 25 years ago.
This has been stated so many times, but I feel it is a bit unfair. Was Krutwig a polished HS prospect when he arrived? Did he singlehandedly lead the to a Final Four? Was he the only person on the court when they shellac'd us?No one knows if his success will extend beyond Krutwig.
Krutwig developed under Moser and there were good pieces around him, but I feel like this stretch is a perfect storm for Moser. This has been stated so many times, but I feel it is a bit unfair. Is it fair to say we shouldn't be sold on Underwood's success extending beyond Ayo or Kofi? His tourney record with Illini is 1-1 WITH them.
What you say is true... "No one knows" the future, but he is building a consistency that is getting harder to ignore and is certainly more "proof" than Underwood has given us.

My post was less of a comparison of coaches and more of comparison of what we are evaluating them for. So I was using Underwood as a bit of a measuring stick.Krutwig developed under Moser and there were good pieces around him, but I feel like this stretch is a perfect storm for Moser.
Since we are comparing... Underwood took SFA to the NCAA Tournament 3 times (with 2 wins) and Oklahoma State once. 4 seasons as a D1 head coach with 4 NCAA Tournament trips before getting to Illinois. Before Krutwig arrived at Loyola, Moser had been a D1 head coach for 13 seasons and never finished better than 5th in their conference (Sun Belt, Horizon, Missouri Valley). Only postseason appearance was 1 trip to the CBI, which they did win.
I shouldn't be so hard on his resume, but you have to at least look at it. Please don't compare Underwood with Moser.
I don't think Underwood is the type of coach where you care confident he wins regardless of the players. I've seen too many red flags in his first two years to believe that.
I was in Raleigh Durham recently and talked with someone who had just moved to Durham from Austin. She really railed on Austin...how bad the traffic was, how long it took to get anywhere, real estate...kind of everything really. I was pretty surprised since Austin has been the poster child for hip cities. She had lived there 19 yrs and was really in love with Durham vs AustinCost of living out of sight. I know the game just ended but if Porter Moser is going to Indiana (as I expect) then Krutwig and Williamson could transfer there and play next season. Just sayin.
Nope, Illinois State.Bradley
It would definitely be a gamble. Why provide Miller's payout for another chance hire?I think Moser is too similar to Archie for Indiana to go after him. Surprised Seth Davis thinks its going to happen
Bad move, coaches die at UT. Beard should see that.Apparently Beard to Texas is a done deal
Good hire by Utah. Been impressed by Smith and his teams last few years.Utah State head coach Craig Smith hired as the new head coach at Utah.
TX boosters just buy the coach a mansion in the hills with a helicopter pad...what is the problem?Same with Southern Ca....great place 15 years ago...but not a destination now. Apple built that giant Austin complex, now it's insane traffic and crazy.
Bum Philips about Bear Bryant : He can take his'n and beat your'n, then he can take your'n and beat his'n.there is not a coach in college basketball I feel like will win regardless of players. Although there are coaches I believe will lose regardless of players
Rick Pitino might be the closest thingthere is not a coach in college basketball I feel like will win regardless of players. Although there are coaches I believe will lose regardless of players
