One more thing-I was told even if both coaches are gone, it will not impact Kofi's decision. Rumor is Kofi may be back. Still a long way to go.
Normally I laugh at the "cups is always on"-type of responses with regards to decisions, but with Kofi, I am fully expecting him not to return. I'm sure your info is good, but I just can't even really get any sort of excitement on the subject until he actually decides to return, which I still wouldn't put anywhere close to 50/50.

That's a 5 minute major in my book. Off to the box.

I'm not sure that Whitman offering Antigua one-point-whatever-million to keep Kentucky from poaching him means that's our new default AC salary.
That’s what I’ve been thinking. Don’t expect that type of $ for the next hire.

We were never going to keep OA from KY. If we can keep Chin and all recruits committed, damage is minimal. OA is not going to poach any recruits. All possible to likely scenario at this point. Get a solid replacement and we don't miss a beat.
Of course not. He knows we will report him in about 1.7 seconds if that happens

Find a proper replacement and everything will be fine. I just hope for the sake of this board’s sanity it’s soon :ROFLMAO:

Him poaching is different than a commit choosing to go elsewhere bc he’s not here.

Gonna be an interesting few weeks. We need to post ASAP and then have limited amount of info leak til we get our guy(s)

I don't believe an OA/Chin departure plays any role in Kofi's return. Kofi's next move is in the hands of NBA organizations. Either he'll be told he's ready for the show or he's not. He witnessed how Ayo's draft stock changed with the additional year, so if he's told he's not ready I expect him to return and not force the situation. He's a god in Champaign and will be the face of college basketball. It's not that tough of a decision to return if he's told he's not ready.

If Kofi's back (and we see continued development of our current players along with Hutch stepping up), we are arguably a better team next year than last. We will be a force in the B1G and win ALOT of games. I love OA and Chin as much as the next guy, but lets not pretend that winning is not the most crucial factor in recruiting. We will keep up the momentum.

After next year, you have 2 guys in the NBA, potentially 2 consecutive B1G titles, and Andre as one of the faces of college basketball as a junior. We will have recruits attention regardless of who our assistant coaches are.

I think Antigua's departure makes a difference. It's been reported that Giorgi was a close friend, and Antigua something of a mentor. The loss of both has to make another year in C-U less attractive to Kofi. The NBA might be as long a shot next year as this year, but Kofi's an international player, and playing internationally could look just fine to him.

With Roy leaving UNC, is Brad Frederick someone worth looking at? I know UNC has had some great recruiting success but not sure how much of that is the name draw vs the assistant coaches themselves.

Or what about Bryan Hodgson? Seems Alabama has some recent successes and at least some of that is probably due to the contributions of their assistant coaching staff.

Dwayne Stephens??? What would Izzo do if we tried to poach other B10 talent?

NOTE: Not an insider, just speculating who Illinois should try to target if we have a larger bankroll to play with where we could potentially go after top level recruiting assistants in the industry. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anyone with Antigua's level of connections out there.

It seems a real stretch to claim we will be a better team next year after losing a likely first round NBA pick.
