Mennenga + Powell is the dream team.
Who am I kidding? I wouldn't say no to this, either. But is Roger interested in coming home? Or for that matter, is Robinson or Mennenga?Mennenga + Powell is the dream team.
Robinson + Mennenga= yes please (assuming Chin is gone). Would be an absolute home run, and both seem to be interested. Make it happen JW.
Roger Powell gave a couple of interviews recently where he said he feels he's ready to take a head coaching job somewhere when the right situation arises. Gonzaga is rolling and I don't think he'd be looking to come back to Illinois as an assistant.Who am I kidding? I wouldn't say no to this, either. But is Roger interested in coming home? And, if both OA and RC leave, wouldn’t Gentry be directly in line to be associate head coach (unless he is a complete jerkhole or something)? Can anyone provide some /speculation on why there seems to be so much negativity surrounding Gentry - with regard to other coaches? Like, is he jerkhole or something?
I AM AN INSIDER!!!!
This is such a weird thing to report. "According to fans on message boards who claim to be insiders".
The passion of Kentucky's fan base is second to none. I'll trade eight national titles and 97 winning seasons out of the past 100 for whatever we've got, thanks.WeWillWhen: “This isn’t so complicated. Kentucky is Kentucky, and Illinois is not.”
And we can thank our Lucky Stars for that. Kentucky has a deeply embedded entitled-feeling fan base with tons of stifling pressure on everyone. If you don’t win it all every single year, you’re worthless. In Illini Nation, we have a legacy tradition second to none in the World and a passionate fan base that appreciates even the smallest hint of great success. And a special High Mountain to climb against all odds.
This article is hot garbage. Now the negative articles are coming out.
Column | Possibility of losing assistant coaches hints at program’s ceiling - The Daily Illini
It was March 14. It didn’t matter that the Big Ten had Michigan — which Illinois beat by 23 — as the Big Ten regular season champion. Illinois had just won its first Big Ten tournament title and secured its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament since 2005. After the Illini finished the...dailyillini.com
From his article: "The only way Illinois can fix this problem is to consistently win under Underwood for a decade." earlier in the article he complained about Kruger and Self leaving after winning consistently. LOLI mean this with no disrespect, but I do not value the opinion of someone who has only been alive and old enough to follow Illinois basketball during it's worst stretch in recent memory. The author didn't experience any of the extended good times. The program's ceiling is clearly higher than where we are now.
Pure laziness. This article is hot garbage.
Gotta hope that the negativity surrounding him this past week didn't leave a sour taste in his mouth too (assuming he's not a jerkhole and we want him here for the long haul). Can anyone provide some /speculation on why there seems to be so much negativity surrounding Gentry - with regard to other coaches? How come you guys can say jerkhole but I can’t say a**?Gotta hope that the negativity surrounding him this past week didn't leave a sour taste in his mouth too (assuming he's not a jerkhole and we want him here for the long haul).
He's a college kid writing about college basketball for the college paper. His perspective is not without value.
I'll concede that he's a little precocious in his fatalism.
You can have bacon when you earn bacon. How come you guys can say jerkhole but I can’t say a**?
Yeah, I guess I give the student writing it a little grace because he is a student. This article is hot garbage.
Think about it, Antigua and Chin stay here and they miss an opportunity to move to Head Coaches. Illinois was Chin's first big Assistant job. Kentucky is a launching pad for Head Coaches. Illinois, in my memory have had few assistants that were offered other positions in past. Also, Look at the pay raise they garner from Whitman and Cal in a bidding war. This looks to outsiders that both schools covet them.Yeah, I guess I give the student writing it a little grace because he is a student.
But consider these two problematic paragraphs:
However, the possibility of assistants Orlando Antigua and, especially, Ron “Chin” Coleman leaving for other assistant jobs signals the potential fact that Illinois will never be considered one of the nation’s most elite programs.
If Antigua and Coleman were leaving for head coaching jobs, so be it. But with Calipari having the chance to lure them away for assistant gigs after his worst season in Lexington, Illinois is taking two steps back after a step forward. The only way Illinois can fix this problem is to consistently win under Underwood for a decade.
The reason we are not an elite program is not because OA and Chin are leaving (if the rumors are true). The reason we are not an elite program is because we have not performed like an elite program. One trip to the championship game, one Final Four since 1989, three tournament appearances in the last ten years. Not exactly rare air.Think about it, Antigua and Chin stay here and they miss an opportunity to move to Head Coaches. Illinois was Chin's first big Assistant job. Kentucky is a launching pad for Head Coaches. Illinois, in my memory have had few assistants that were offered other positions in past. Am I missing something? The negativity was a few posters on a message board?Gotta hope that the negativity surrounding him this past week didn't leave a sour taste in his mouth too (assuming he's not a jerkhole and we want him here for the long haul).
Hopefully BU got some of OA's Caribbean contacts! Love the players we have been getting from the area. With Carribean connection gone I hope they get someone with good standing with the Chicago area coaches. Year in and year out we need Chicago kids to sustain the improvements.

Yep. Repeated enough, they become real facts. Are potential facts kind of like alternative facts?
