I have a feeling this might be the week for an announcement or two.

Haha, beat me to it. (y)
I hear: Young/Irvin. AJ Casey still has Illinois HIGH on his list/Guerrier has Oregon as leader/Ky. has Schutt as his leader and we should get a visit from De Ante Green. 6-9 PF from NC. Chester was recruiting him while at Va. Tech.

I think his plan all along is to string us along and eventually flip the script from "who we want" to "just get a warm body in there...don't care who it is"!

Thought Young from Uconn had already told us "no".

I'm assuming CY Young then Irvin for Alexander's role, as he moves into Gentry's AC spot. And I really wish Illinois would've pushed for Schutt a while ago.

Although different years, I think it was Podz or Schutt for that position.

Schutt would have never happened with Chin on board. At least we have an opportunity for a June visit. That recruitment gained an upgrade by Chin's departure. Same for Casey. They clearly are the 2 best players in Illinois in 022.

This pretty much confirms Geoff as our second assistant replacement.

Any insiders want to enlighten us on an updated list? Guessing Alexander is just a matter of time, but won't be announced until Gentry is officially back at Gonzaga. I have to imagine the top guys mentioned for the past couple weeks are off the table, or at least requiring some substantial negotiations to re-engage. My take is that this timeline is more normal than we realize. It's just crazier for us because our entire staff is being replaced.

I think getting Chester was a bigger get than we want to admit. He was a well-established quality assistant, and even though he's an alum, he was back in his home region at VT and had finally branched out from Weber. I see it roughly similar to George McDonald on the football side, although McDonald is even more established as both a coach and recruiter. But both guys were alums that were establishing themselves as very high-quality assistants, and both were not from Illinois/midwest. Bringing them here from P5 schools more in their home-region is a pretty big deal.

Not exactly. Guys are always moved into that "assistant" role so recruiting doesn't fall off. Happened many times with Lovie where a GA would become the "assistant coach" under the NCAA recruiting rule, until the spot was officially filled. In this case, it sure seems like he'll officially be an assistant coach, but as of now, he's probably just filling that role so we have all the recruiting positions filled and don't fall behind contacting prospects.

Another random thought. Would it be impossible to give Bergeron the Assistant to the Head Coach role? I forget how that works. Assuming he would have to stay at least as long as Mitchell, but is that still illegal? Where is the line drawn on those things? He's not technically Mitchell's father, or his high school or AAU coach.

If I'm not mistaken, he can't currently recruit in his position. Someone smarter than me, confirm. If, so, we have confirmation, or else a call to Dallas Thomas needs made to change the name to Coach Frazier
This happens pretty frequently in football due to the staff size and frequency of assistant openings. A non-recruiting coach is moved into the assistant role to keep contact with recruits until an official assistant is hired. I think Joe Fotu was moved from GA into the d line coach role while that was open. Pretty sure some recruiting staff has been elevated temporarily as well. I think the smoke here about Alexander tells us a lot more about him becoming the assistant coach than that tweet.

I believe the only way Tre can enroll with Bergeron on staff is if he is in one of the three assistant spots.
