While I don't doubt his ego is enormous, one would think it's better to go out like a Rupp -- be remembered for your greatness on its own and for laying the foundation for a great program -- than to plant a bomb on your way out the door. Scheyer's failure would tarnish K's reputation too, since he anointed him (by all appearances). I've gotten the impression over the last few years that Scheyer didn't take a HC gig because he was in line as the coach-in-waiting -- I'm sure he was in high demand after multiple killer recruiting classes. Whether he can be successful on his own outside K's shadow will be very interesting to watch.
I don't disagree, and I don't mean to suggest that this is his primary motivation for anointing Scheyer.
But by installing Scheyer, he'll end up stroking his ego no matter the outcome - Scheyer succeeds and he's validated. Scheyer fails, and his overall magnificence is amplified in comparison.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Yes, either way he wins. Because he's Coach K no matter what happens after he leaves. He's the realest of real deals when it comes to college coaching.

I used to drive from Danville to Milford to see the Milford Ghost.
I graduated from Milford in 1967. I go back after 50 years and can't believe what has happened to my town I grew up in! Totally down hill. Now have to have 8-man football because of lack of players. Other small town in that area have formed their own league.

1.) I’m for whatever Ducks Fuke the worst...be it Scheyer or some other Dougherty 2.O.
They won’t be down for long anyway...even if they get a dud.
2.) But ultimately I don’t even like to think about the Dookie Pukes too much...so Duck Fuke.
3.)Too bad about Thad...no sarcasm...that sucks
4.)skyldub you outdid yourself that was comedy gold, man!
5.)The one and done model basically works until the talent starts drying up. I don’t have any stats /yearly analytics
in front of me going back to the early 90s until now...but it sure didn’t help with Europe catching up to us.
There’s a finite amount of blue chip talent. (Some years it is even more finite.) At the same time, it stands to reason if more and more lower tier guys are being NOT developed at the college level...college basketball suffers. I’m agreeing with you RockfordIllini. I don’t know the answer for it. I certainly do not blame the one and done-ers one little bit...let’s not go there...it’s no secret they’re exploited etc etc
6.) I have never heard ”gild the lily” either...but I am gonna use it whenever I can
7.) A messy Bruce Pearl shart on natty tv would be better than going to the Elite Eight...yes, it probably it would.
8.) Selfish DOES like to stick it to Illinois anyway he can. Is that a toupee or not? Inquiring minds I guess.
If it is...it is one helluva toupee. He’s a real Richard though...apologies to anyone decent actually named Richard.

Since the NBA playoffs will be over by July 22nd, I guess we can just pencil the 23rd in and be happy if we hear anything earlier. Sounds way better than the end of the week predictions that renew every 7 days.

I think Matta is from Hoopeston, Il. I grew up just north of there in Milford.
Played fast pitch softball in Milford In The 70’s & played basketball/baseball against hoopeston in the old Wauseca Conference.

Duke ha$ lot$ of re$ource$ if you catch my drift. They will $till get their player$ unless the donor$ rebel.
that's nice for recruiting but he still has to coach them into results on the floor. and if the donors don't like what they see, then cash dries up pretty quick and he'll be shown the door. when the donors control the recruiting then the coach has some high standards to meet.

Yes, he is the realist of real as he perfected paying his players and being able to get away with it. The poor player who lost expensive jewelry in a robbery, the player whose mom got a great job, etc.etc. Its a great world where we worship those who are best at cheating. Kind of like Calipari-get great players by playing "the game of recruiting" and then be considered a great coach because of all the talent.

If Scheyer is lucky we'll have an AC spot for him after he's shown the door at Duke.

The 8-man football league has been around for about 5 years. Milford won the state 8-man football state title I think 2 of the 5 years.
When they won the “state title,” I believe a total of around 15 schools were playing with an 8-man squad. Not trying to belittle, but with so few teams playing, it does add perspective.

I have no insight here but it seems like its going to be a guy from the NBA. We have people on here spouting we need a guy who knows recruiting. We hired a head coach who was suppose to be this great recruiter in Groce. He failed to land a lot of players and his coaching was terrible. Indiana hired a career pro guy in Woodson after hiring a guy who was suppose to be a great coach and recruiter. My point here is that all college players at this level knows how recruiting works, They were recruited by many assistants and coaches. It is not like they walk into a kids house not knowing what to say or do. We have two solid college recruiters on staff. Why not get a guy who knows and understands the pro game? Juwan Howard has no college coaching experience but it seemed to work for him at Michigan. He is grabbing top level talent. So why not a guy like a Brian Randle or any young up and coming coach who might want to get back on the college game? I am not saying BR would be my top choice but I would take a hard look at an NBA guy.

Iroquois County needs an Iroquois East. The only problem I see is what does CP do. They are kind of away from any consolidation that makes sense. Damn I miss Iroquois County Basketball of the 70's and 80's.
