Yeah- I keep reading AHC as "Assistant Head Coach" rather than "Assistant TO the Head Coach"

Not sure what world you live in but Wall Street cheats, major college sports cheat, private and public companies cheat, politicians are all paid off by lobbyists, it’s the world we live in.

I don’t agree with it, but nobody has built a winner or made hundreds of millions of dollars without cheating.

The NCAA has made billions off the backs of these kids.

You play the game or settle for mediocrity.

Dan - apologies for my rant and I understand if you delete it. For the record I personally don’t cheat in life or teach my kids too, but it’s unfortunately how things are.
Words matter. Cheaters cheat. They go into different professions but the only "profession" that is all cheaters is career criminal. Lock 'em up.

Why does this pertain to our coaching hire? Because I don't want vacated titles or so-called victories that we can't be proud of. And your blanket statement "major college sports cheat" implies I can't take satisfaction in major college sports. That is not the world we live in, though.

Ayo didn't cheat his way to the NBA draft. Or did he? According to your ridiculous position, all the students, all the coaches, and everyone in the administration are cheaters because they participate in major college sports. And it's okay, because "mediocrity" is unacceptable? That's your retionalization!?

News flash, you are NOT teaching your kids not to cheat. You're teaching your kids that being mediocre (aka average, aka normal) is a bad thing, and we should all cheat, (what you call "play the game"), to avoid it. Just. Wow.

I’ll keep it on topic.

The challenge Illinois faces, and many of the the non-blue blood schools face, is that there needs to be a way to compete for top recruits.

Facilities, coaches, academics are a huge part of that. However without doing what other schools do, you’ll need to be happy hanging below the top tier.

I obviously don’t have the solution without engaging in the same behavior, but that’s just the reality of the situation, like it or not.
Apologies for my earlier rant. I know we all want Illinois to win.

I've had enough of embarrassing coaches without the additional humiliation of cheating, too. Do we want to read about our coach crashing his motorcycle with his paid "girlfriend" on the back before we realize that maybe hiring scumbags is not the way to go? Are we proud of our university, or not?

The problem we have today is that we live in a performance culture rather than a character culture. People want character performed for the media, but to cheat like hell to get the wins. But character doesn't work like that. It isn't superficial, and it isn't words. It's what happens behind closed doors.

I want a program we can all be proud of. And I 100% believe the 6-8 wins range, with an occaisonal "the stars all aligned" year, can be done with a clean program. But maybe not a natty. That's a compromise I'm happy to make.

So much integrity. I am unworthy!

I always think it's interesting when people make certain characteristics sound generational. As if cheating was just invented. People have been cheating all of time.

To each their own.

Love the civil back and forth in the last 5-6 posts in this thread about opinions regarding cheating and it's place in society and the perspective of Illini fans in general as to our beloved program.....

Cheaters cheat.....that's a given, whether it's copying off someone taking a test in school or shoplifting or whatever the violation is.....Intent, in my mind, is a significant factor as to what and why someone cheats.....I had agents on my staff before I retired that looked to cut corners, cheat and deceive me and their clients...
Eventually it all comes out in the open , but cheating as far as to college sports must have a place where cheaters are brought to justice...The NCAA is NOT that place, turning a blind eye to past MAJOR AND CONTINUING violations by many high profile programs and now it is out of control....

Amateurism in college sports is an idea long since replaced with AAU teams, bagmen, etc that upsets the balance of right and wrong.......I would be very disappointed if anything came to light as to BU and former , present or future staff that would embarrass the illini program as I still remember the slush fund and Satan fiasco's ...

I mean what is cheating.... Paying a player that brings in potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue? How about using connections to get a single mother a decent paying job near the school that her son plays? How about a dorm with private chefs, gyms, high end AV and gaming equipment that you let some "regular" students stay in?

The NCAA model is pretty far from the free market capitalism that a lot of Americans hang their hat on.

The NCAA in its current form is one giant hypocrisy. With that, these student-athletes know what they are signing up for as far as not getting paid (pre NIL). The SCOTUS gave the NCAA a swift kick with their recent ruling. Curious as to how all this shakes out in the near future

Is there a point to this comment?
