Fire Coach UW, but try to negotiate the buyout due to the threat of bringing "cause" such as player abuse and inappropriate conduct unbecoming an Illini Coach.
Hmmmm….
That is a stone cold gangster move right there. (Basically you want him to go full insurance company investigator.) lol

To me that might raise some eyebrows

What do you mean by the word abuse?Who did he actually abuse? What was deemed inappropriate? Did it continue?

If so, why wasn’t’ something done at the time? If it’s important now and you knew it then…why didn’t you act?

The prior( “treadmill”)internal investigation turned up nothing…and the AD signed off on that correct?

He’s the AD and he can do whatever he wants but these are fair questions…

Fair, I guess I did not appreciate the Wal-Mart connection enough. That fundamentally changes the situation, haha. Why the hell aren't the old money families of State Farm or formerly Caterpillar bankrolling all of our stuff then?

Like a Good Neighbor, Wal-Mart is there! And so is good old big piles of Texas Black Gold greenbacks.

But so what? The Prairie State has... lots and lots of Corn along with the Illinois Pork Producers! Let's see anybody top THAT. Fresh Bacon and Grits! And the best fans in the whole World.

I'm late to the party on this....the whole work thing got in the way. Let's just assume that BU is on a bit of a fishing expedition. We're talking about the same Sean Miller that got bounced out of AZ for some unsavory recruiting practices? He's been at Xavier for one year and he's already open to bailing after they gave him his career back? I'm sure he's a nice guy, but his resume would have a few red flags on it. Fired + short stay at his next job.....not exactly a hiring manager's dream.
What he did at Arizona is legal now.

Unfortunate - Mac didn’t impress me at Iowa State. He’s done well at Creighton but I wouldn’t be over the moon. But if it’s who we’d get, I would trust Josh.

you mean all the ones that transferred out?

Senior Day this year was two one-year rentals, lol
Senior Day last year was 2 guys who BU didn't initially recruit but stayed for 5 years, plus Kofi (3 years), plus a couple of rentals (Plummer, Jake), plus whatever Hutch was. So sure, cherry pick.

Illinois' roster churn is not significantly different than many other teams in the portal era, especially with the COVID bonus year in play.

Exhibit A :

I heard BU eats a lot of hot wings and then farts in the locker room as he locks the players inside.......

more facts to follow as soon as they are uncovered........................

Exhibit B :

Started to pipe in music of ABBA late in the season in practice.....................

Let's just say Underwood leaves (I would be shocked if he did), and Miller says no (I can't imagine he'd leave X for Illinois), who would the top candidates be? Paul Mills? Darian Devries? Would be tough to pry away someone good from a high major IMO.

If there’s one thing I won’t tolerate it’s the mellow sounds of ‘70s Swedish power-Pop! 😂

Why the hell aren't the old money families of State Farm or formerly Caterpillar bankrolling all of our stuff then?? I know State Farm helped a lot with the SFC, but we gave them a LOT of free exposure every single home game for that. We need rich Illinoisans to get annoyed enough that the Illini are not elite that they take steps to change that ... because that absolutely happens in a lot of other states. Sam Walton went to Mizzou, so his loyalty to Arkansas is state pride, not some alum connection.
He’s been dead for 30 years and the two living son’s went to Arkansas. But he did give to the school of business which is named after him.

Let's play hypothetical here: say Whitman has an actual discussion with Miller's agent this weekend. The agent tells him Miller will gladly talk about the IL job after Xavier's season. Lo and behold, Xavier is bounced. Miller informally chats with JW and says he'd be very interested in the job if Underwood leaves/is fired. What does Whitman do? What would you want him to do?
The following is answering the question posted - I have no idea if it should/should not be done. It assumes you have someone good lined up as a replacement and things are at a point that either you don't want to try and repair it, or you think it is irreparable.

I'd hold a talk with Underwood similar to what he holds with scholarship players that are not working out. We will honor your contract. Expect that if you stay here, there will be no raises, bonuses, or extensions beyond those already contractually given unless you knock it out of the park (FF). We will not be providing additional money for your assistant pool - and may actually reduce it should one of the higher paid assistants leave. We will not match any outside offers. We believe we have already provided everything reasonable, yet you seem to want more at every turn. If you decide to stay, we will wait a few years until the buyout becomes reasonable, and expect you to do your contracted job during that time. Alternatively, everyone will probably be happier if you find someplace else to coach. The decision is yours.

I am absolutely not going to try anything dirty such as implying they abused players. The pitch is: I believe we were reasonable. It wasn't enough for you. As there is not a meeting of the minds, for the good of everyone, it is time for you to move on.

Brad will fight to be paid market - he left OK State for Illinois to get his. However he is well paid now.

He was more attractive 2 years ago after #1 seed, and last year after B10 championship.

This year Brad had a 3-6 B10 road record was first round elimination in B10 tournament and first round elimimation in NCAA. I like Brad and think he is a good coach but a man has to know his limitations.

Texas hired Texas Tech coming off Final Four and Shaka Smart who was one of most coveted candidates during his time at VCU.

John Mackovic could have retired at Illinois but got canned at Texas for averaging 7-4 record over 6 years. since 2012 when we fired Ron zook our average record has been 4-8.

I wish Brad would send his son to be assistant at another school. It feels like Lovie Smith and Bill Cubit hiring his son .

Illinois is a good job.

Lou H, Lon K, Bill S and Bruce W were all able to win B10 championships and do well in NCAAs here.

John Groce and the last 5 years of Bruce Weber (only 2 NCAA appearances) were the only failures. I blame it on the coach not the school.

If Brad leaves I am confident that Whitman will find us a great new coach. While Lovie and Nancy Fahey were wiffs I think Whitman has learned and the Bret Bielema and Shauna Green hires look very very good.

Brad coached for 30 years to get the P5 opportunity at OK State then Illinois job. I doubt he is going to throw it all away to increase his pay from $5M to $7M per year. If Brad were offered Kansas/UCLA/Duke/UNC a blue blood then maybe. But Texas has not been to Final Four since 1943!
