Should be a fun flight from Spokane to Orlando.

if the stewardesses could go back to 1972 , the flight would be fine. in fact , the 6 hours would go too fast

a pretty good addition for basketball to the B12, albeit it wont mean much in terms of revenue. just prestige

Yomark's got a bee in his bonnet for expansion, but from a purely financial perspective, adding Gonzaga is probably dilutive. From a hoops perspective though, it's a big win-win for the Big 12 and the Zags.

All that noise about the 4 Corners schools jumping to the Big 12 sure has died down A LOT lately.

Unless Gonzaga is planning to add football, I'd have to imagine any deal would be reduced by whatever share of the media deal is considered to come from football (since they don't field football) in which case I'd say it's probably de minimis rather than dilutive. Their basketball program probably increases the value of Big 12 basketball which is a small positive gain, and if they're not taking football revenue from other schools, then it remains a small positive gain.

Interesting that they would finalize their media deal then talk about Gonzaga in expansion. Obviously football makes the money, but if you have a new blue blood in your basketball lineup, that’s gotta be worth a little more on the sell.

yea - good luck pitching that to the ESPN/Fox people this off season, with your hat in hand
Not sure why some people feel compelled to kick the PAC12 league and its commissioner while they are down. The guy is just trying to do promote his league any way he can. That's his job.

The remaining football members of the ASUN and WAC have agreed to align to form the foundation of a 10-member football-only conference, with the intention of becoming the 11th FBS conference. The schools that have signed on to join the league are WAC football members Stephen F. Austin, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Southern Utah and Tarleton State and ASUN football members Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and North Alabama. The 9-team conference would begin in 2024 with UT Rio Grande Valley, who recently announced they're starting a football program, joining in 2025 when they begin their first season of football. There is some ambiguity of what they would need to do to become an FBS conference and each of the schools would have to go through a transition period after jumping from FCS to FBS.

Even if this doesn't end up happening, Austin Peay recently had a board of trustees meeting where a plan to jump to FBS by 2025 was outlined.

I'm curious why you like Temple and UMass in the Big East. Geography and their institutional likeness to UCONN? Not sure their basketball is good enough these days to warrant consideration from the Big East.

On the other hand, I could see UMass and UCONN both becoming football-only affiliate members of the American Athletic Conference. Those two alongside current AAC full members Temple and Navy would make for a northeastern "pod" of 4 in a 16-team football conference. (UMass is floundering in football, too, but perhaps the AAC would like to access the New England market and UMass' 30k strong student body.)

I'll add that I love the idea of interchanging football divisions within a conference. Maybe this has been proposed already, and I missed it >>>
each year, conference records from the previous season being used to determine the new divisions.

2023 Big Ten divisions would resemble something like the below... and then they'd do a little schedule finagling in the cross-division matchups to make sure every team gets a key rivalry game if the two teams aren't in the same division using this system. Perhaps it's too complicated or "too close to opening day" to make work, but I like it.

Division A
-Previous year conference champ (UM)
-#4 (PU)
-#5 (Illinois)
-#8 (Maryland)
-#9 (Wisconsin)
-#12 (Indiana)
-#13 (Rutgers)

Division B
-#2 (OSU)
-#3 (PSU)
-#6 (Iowa)
-#7 (Minn)
-#10 (MSU)
-#11 (Nebraska)
-#14 (Northwestern)
