I’ve been wondering that myself, if schools move the revenue needle up and add value, I bet it doesn’t - assuming they are strong academically.Does aau really mean anything anymore?

Well, 4 bowls games against Illinois, not like we have been to a tonI generally like it. Iowa rivalries seem the most spot on. Nebraska/USC seems like a natural historical (going back a bit) powers rivalry. Michigan State football gets screwed. It also just looks strange with UCLA having any BIG "rivals". I guess they need to start somewhere. 15 years from now it wont seem that way I guess.
Every single Big ten school with the exception of Nebraska who was a member when we added them is AAU. Clearly it still means something to the people that make these decisions. At the end of the day the Big Ten is an academic alliance first and an athletic conference second in the minds of school presidents.Does aau really mean anything anymore?
You sure when $100s of millions are on the table?Every single Big ten school with the exception of Nebraska who was a member when we added them is AAU. agree it means something, but also realize they wouild accept ND into the league in a minute.Every single Big ten school with the exception of Nebraska who was a member when we added them is AAU. Tibbs, I like you. No BSagree it means something, but also realize they wouild accept ND into the league in a minute.
So we know they will/would make an exception, and so the only real question is, who ELSE they would make an exception for ?
money has a crazy way of changing things. just ask the beautiful model who wouldn't have sex with a rich guy for $100, but would for $1,000,000
9 out of 10 times I say yes, however the academic alliance is dealing with billions in research cash themselves. You sure when $100s of millions are on the table?
Look I love tradition, standards, and hope you’re right. My personal opinion is I see those values declining, albeit more gradual in the big 10
Interesting. Good point. However how does that factor into sports? I’d imagine they’re separated ? Or is there some ‘overlap’? I don’t care either way, just something I hadn’t really given much thought to9 out of 10 times I say yes, however the academic alliance is dealing with billions in research cash themselves.

1. I am no expert of this, but the alliance does a lot of networking, sharing of course info, etc.research opportunities are perhaps shared or even co-opted with member schools , but pretty sure each school keeps the revenue they earn to themselves.
There is benefit to being a conference member when it comes to getting government or fortune 500 R&D money, but there is no community pot of money that is shared on these contracts like media money is shared in grants of rights
Another thing I’ve been wondering. I have no idea but will we see the media ‘arm’s race’ turn into a bursting bubble? If so what will be the repercussions? Streaming services really taking over? Ike I said I wish I knew (get in on some futures trades), but who knows. My hunch is that even if some networks go bust streaming can take over. One non-expert’s thoughtsOther thing that has been bugging me lately is fears that sports broadcasting bubble might be bursting. With the recent Warner Bros-Discovery cutbacks on their RSNs and the fall of Bally Sports, regional sports networks are in big trouble and the MLB, NBA, and NHL are already working on backup plans. Also I am wondering if this spreads to the ESPN, Fox, NBC, CBS level soon. I am glad for the new big TV deal, though I wish it was a wee bit longer now hehe. Also this cannot be good for our PAC brethren.
Unless it's a B1G rule that they won't budge on the difference with FSU is they have an established relationship with the Seminole Tribe(s) and permission to use the "Seminole" name and likeness'. Sorry if this was mentioned earlier I didn't go through all posts. So if FSU gets in the B1G they’d have to give up their Seminole nickname etc. I don’t see how the B1G could lets this slide.
Yeah, I did pause for a second and thought "we have played them a couple times - could we be as close to a rival?". I wonder if we have played them more frequently relative to the other big teams? I wouldn't know where to look for that.Well, 4 bowls games against Illinois, not like we have been to a ton

Keeping this relative to Illinois, sc, and ucla ( something of a history with Washington, Stanford, and even Arizona) but regular season in the 70s, later 80s, and mid 90s, including the ‘07 rose bowl, there’s something you can call a history with the Trojans as well. One need only at Illinois year by year schedules and results (can be depressing). Some bright spots though so don’t be afraid.Winsipedia - Illinois Fighting Illini vs. UCLA Bruins football series history

San Diego state had to go through this most recently, ended up in ‘toning down the mascot’. I doubt fsu will need not change anything. How those dynamics work, I guess it depends on the tribe in question.Unless it's a B1G rule that they won't budge on the difference with FSU is they have an established relationship with the Seminole Tribe(s) and permission to use the "Seminole" name and likeness'. Yeah, didn't want to do that times 13 and create an excel list to see where we compare vs. the rest of the big. I'm always looking for the easy button.Winsipedia - Illinois Fighting Illini vs. UCLA Bruins football series history

Hear ya. Again though, doesn’t take long. 15 minutes tops. I’ve done it and that’s about it. Plus you don’t need to create an excel list. State your point, which you know is true, and leave the rest to everyone elseYeah, didn't want to do that times 13 and create an excel list to see where we compare vs. the rest of the big. Premium content continues to get premium dollars. Fortunately, the B1G is premium content that LOTS of people like to watch.Other thing that has been bugging me lately is fears that sports broadcasting bubble might be bursting. So I had a break and did the work. We have played UCLA more than anyone save Nebraska, so by that measure we are a fitting rival. And we are an even Stephen 6-6.Keeping this relative to Illinois, sc, and ucla ( something of a history with Washington, Stanford, and even Arizona) but regular season in the 70s, later 80s, and mid 90s, including the ‘07 rose bowl, there’s something you can call a history with the Trojans as well. Or just go regular Wikipedia year by year. Have scores, teams, attendance, (not always stats) but that works pretty well. And doesn’t take as long as youd think
By ‘us’ do you mean usc? Sorry and apologies in advance, but this list doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Apologies again. Example if us,somehow can Nebraska have played us more times than we’ve played them?So I had a break and did the work.
