Would we ever take Miznoz though?

We already have a bite of the St Louis tv market so I’m guessing the net gain isn’t as strong as in a place with fewer Illini fans.

Plus it’s not like they are on a sinking PAC##/Big12/ACC ship. They’re comfortably on the deck of the speed boat that’s trying to pass us while they butt-chug Budweiser. 😬

My opinion only but I think the BR game is safe.

I don't see how a short-term deal is revenue maximizing for anybody. The per team per year take would be way lower.

The Big Ten ship has sailed for the 2020's. The end of the ACC grant of rights is the next moment the tectonic plates will move.

Either the Pac 12 locks in together for 7-8 years or some of them jump in bed with the Big 12. That's all that's left to shake out on the chessboard.

Sorry to disappoint the Big Ten Empire Dungeons and Dragons weirdos.

yea , I don’t see the B1G taking any PAC schools anytime soon , but I do think at least 2 will join the B12 soon .

I think it depends on where the contract comes in at and what revenue maximizing looks like.

I think you are probably right that GOR maximizes revenue within the PAC12 short term, but not convinced the difference will be significant enough for anyone to jump on GOR and be locked in long term like ACC, that deal looks very bad at the moment. I think anyone with any hope of jumping to B1G or SEC doesn't sign, then if deal sucks it seems likely AZ & CO are gone, then negotiation starts over and at lower $. Also not sure after ACC experience I would be wanting to jump into a long term deal that may look awful 7-8 years down the road.

Memphis has as much chance of getting into the B12 as it does the B1G - zero

B12 is going to be the best basketball conference and a real real good football league, even after UT and OU depart, with BYU, UCF, Cincy and Houston coming in. And wont be long until Colo and Arizona go in. Maybe talking AzSt and Utah with them

Not sure how you come up with real real good football league. Oklahoma has dominated B12 for past 10 years and they are headed to SEC. Past 10 years of BCS says Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Clemson, USC and Ohio State. Other teams that snuck in like Notre Dame, Michigan, Cincinnati and TCU were blownout.

Not sure if what TCU accomplished is sustainable. Sonny Dykes appears to be an slightly above average college coach who caught lightning in a bottle last year.

Just random musings here RE: other Pac-12 schools to potentially join USC and UCLA ... I have REALLY soured on Cal compared to where I was initially, haha. At first, I thought of them much like a Rutgers or Maryland - a school that has struggled in athletics (namely football) but is still the default "home team" in a very populous area and valuable TV market for the Big Ten, and if the right person was ever hired as AD, they could be a bit of a "sleeping giant." However, Cal seems like a unique case of this, and not in a good way. Whereas Rutgers and Maryland are big state flagships with at least potential to gain some "sidewalk fans" from their states, Cal has more of a Northwestern feel, where if you didn't attend or you do not live in the literal university town itself, you do not seem to ever feel a connection to it. I could be wrong (someone in the Bay Area tell me if I am), but it honestly seems like Washington would be a much bigger "get."

Older but a potential nice stadium in a great location. Illinois played them there a number of years ago and I attended.

I'd recruit Cal if I wanted a good protest. As far as athletics with passion, no thanks. Even though I believe San Fran has more B1G graduates anywhere outside the midwest.

There are a ton of Illini engineering grads out here in the bay area; selfishly I'd love for us to play regularly in my neck of the woods if Cal or Stanford joined, but Cal's fan base is indeed niche and mostly uninterested. It would have to be 99% TV market based as their team/fans don't bring much to the table in either revenue sport in my opinion unfortunately.

Cal is a no due to its decades' lack of interest and investment in athletics. They just don't really care.

Washington or Stanford would be much bigger gets. Seattle is the #12 media market in US. Huskies have a strong local fanbase, followed by both alumni and non-alums. They still average about 65k/game even though the team has been down for much of the past three decades. A lot of transplants in that city who would love to come out to see visiting B1G teams. Sailgating on a boat outside the stadium is fantastic for those who have the opportunity.

Stanford doesn't have a huge local fanbase, but brings the B1G into a Top 10 media market, brings a ton of credibility (and B1G Network content) in all of the non-revenue sports, a nice modern stadium, and they have had their moments in football and men's basketball. Plus, I'm sure all the Big Presidents would love to add the academic sheen of that school to their club.

Also, lots of major corporations and high-income areas in Seattle and the Bay Area. Great markets.

Thamel had said in a general realignment article on ESPN.com within the last week or so that SDSU would be the replacement for Colorado if the Buffs decided to move back to the Big XII. UConn and Memphis have also been discussed as possible Big XII schools. UConn is mainly an option for the Big XII if none of the other Four Corners schools (Zona, ASU, Utah) join the Buffs in the Big XII.

Imagine the schadenfreude of seeing a conference with schedules so imbalanced that it happened, and then see them eat their young over who goes to the conference championship. I suppose it's the world we live in though --the tv dollars control the schedule, not what's best for competition.
