I haven't seen this association pointed out yet with the ACC/Miami and the B1G.

Donna Shalala.

She has ties to Clinton/Obama/Biden having served with all of them. They run most of DC. She's been vice chair of the DNC. She was president of Miami for 10+ years. She may be on as a part-time staff there now?? She was chancellor at Wisconsin and actually was part of the hiring of Alvarez.

The liberal academics fawn over her. That means a lot IMO. She has cred with in both government and academics.

It would be interesting to know if she has any desires to get Miami into the B1G? I'm sure she could have (if wanted) played a role in getting Miami into the AAU.

Im sure she was a positive influence for the U, but far from the driver on the bus for that.

the B1G wants in on Florida . No doubt about that. UF isnt likely to leave the SEC and FlaSt is in the panhandle.
The B1G likely prefers south Florida and the huge population center from Orlando on down on both coasts. Im sure TV does

How Miami gets out of the ACC deal any time soon is the big question.

So when do you guys think divisions will be over in the B1G or never? I have to imagine teams in the East will he screaming for the ending of divisions to get sway from UM, OSU, and PSU every year.

Liberal academics? That'll be something new in a university setting.

Did you guys see this article from the News-Gazette about B1G expansion candidates? I am open to the idea of going to 24 teams, if some things can be worked out, but no to Clemson. I am open to discussing Georgia Tech and NC State but think these 3 spots would be better used on other schools.

What are your thoughts if B1G expands in the coming years?

If you told if you told me that the Big Ten had to go to 24 teams and to pick the teams I’d add, it would be: Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, Arizona State, Florida State, Miami, UNC, and Georgia Tech. If I could also kick out Maryland and Rutgers I’d also add Mizzou and Colorado.

Maryland and Rutgers aren't going anywhere. Getting in the DC and NYC markets is of more importance than getting in KC (I'd assume they're at least in STL already) and Denver markets.

I do think its interesting that these are supposedly the first two teams jumping to the Big 12. Colorado certainly probably realizes that it is not near the top of the Big Ten's wishlist, and won't get an invite any time soon, so is jumping at the first opportunity. Plus the history means they should be fairly comfortable.

Arizona going without Arizona State, to me, says that there really could be something for Arizona State to the Big Ten. Maybe it isn't imminent, but joining the AAU, being in a top 5 most populus city with many Big Ten alum retirees in the area, they could be an awesome southwest leg of the conference. Arizona certainly doesn't want to wait around to see if it can come along for the ride, and goes to a conference where it should be an even better fit and helps make the Big 12 the clear #1 basketball conference in the country. I think this would be one of those situations where the benefits outweigh the loss of tradition and history.

I always figured the pac12 and acc would be partners. After all, they have an alliance, right? 🤣
