Y'know Rod Carey gets like no credit and no future Illinois coach buzz despite having an in-state team better than us year after year after year.

He should be on the list.

The one guy we poached from that staff (Thad Ward) is our best local recruiter.

Yeah. I agree. He has never had a losing record in conference and only one losing record (barely) in all of his seasons as a head coach where he coached a full season. His record is far, far better than Lasagna's ever was and yet somehow hasn't been woo'd into a P5 job as Becks was. He's still relatively young, too (47) so has plenty of years left. I honestly think he'd be a great hire if it ever happened.

I would surly think that Brown is gone to Louisville.
Hopefully they don’t look at R. Smith.

Brohm seems like the obvious connection for them, but I would also make phone calls to Ryan Day (Ohio State), Neal Brown (Troy), and Seth Littrell (North Texas). Could also see them reach out to Locksley (Alabama) and Mike Norvell (Memphis).

*This is essentially a list of candidates that every open P5 job is going to call (at least one of these people)*

Part of his issue is he took over one of the best MAC teams in its history, then went from 12-2 to 11-3 to 8-6 to 5-7, plus he's 0-5 in bowl games. The positive is he's been to five bowl games in seven years (counting the one as interim coach) and has them back on the upswing. I think he'll start to get some buzz this offseason. Could be on Purdue's short list if Brohm leaves.

Pretty pretty please relieve us of Jeff Brohm

Indeed. Brohm has a chance to take advantage of a weak Big Ten West and make Purdue a top-25 team. Let's hope they regress back to the mean and suck for perpetuity.

Though it's weird to see Brohm's team pull off huge upsets in dominating fashion (Ohio State), and look like steaming garbage against Minnesota. That team is either white hot, or stone cold.

Yeah, I can’t quite place my finger on Brohm.

They are 5-5 and will most likely go bowling with Wisky next and IU after that.

But I can’t help but feel like they should be 8-2 or something. Granted...going bowling 2 years in a row would be a helluva accomplishment after the Hazel years, but with how good of a coach Brohm SEEMS to be, I wouldn’t expect a 5-5 season at this point.

Maybe Louisville will take him away based on the fact that he pulled PU out of the gutter so they assume he will work wonders at Louisville?

I was also at that fiasco. Was undergrad during Moeller's years at the helm, many a Saturday we would be walking around campus, hear a cheer and suddenly realize that there was a football game going on. Many don't understand how low things sank under Moeller.

I don't know very much about defensive schemes. Is there a DC out there running a more modern version of Lovie's defense he could bring in?

The only power 5 guy I can think of right now that consistently uses the Tampa 2 is Brian Ward. He is part of the Syracuse rebuild right now though so it would be a lateral move for him.

We need a DJ Durkin type without it being DJ Durkin. Durkin is toxic as a head coach might be hireable as a d coordinator. But comments about his culture/mentality are concerning.

How about Brady Hoke instead of his brother or Phair? There is also some up and coming coaches at lower div programs. Louisville also has a d coordinator who likely will be gone.

Pellini or Bielama for DC.

BTW - is this year the start of Wiscy's slide back to mediocrity (or worse?!)

I brought up Bo earlier. Used Tampa 2 a little at Nebraska. Great defensive mind. Kind of a contrasting demeanor between him and Lovie but that may be a good thing.

I would think Lovie would go one of two directions. I think the most likely would be Hoke, Phair or someone else he has worked with and knows will implement his wishes.

The second I could see is a young young who has shown well but likely to defer to Lovie given Lovies experience. A guy like Jeff Knowles from Northern would make a ton of sense. Orchestrating a top 15 D while in the MAC is pretty impressive.

I can't see Lovie wanting to bring in a big named coach with their own set ways that might cause friction. For better or worse Lovie is our D guy and I doubt he wants challenged

Both Pelini was solid for Nebraska but they wanted more. Which we all know is the enemy of perfection. Pelini always seemed to be a perfectionist/disciplined. Probably the type we need on defense.

Also worth noting we right now run a base 4-2-5. Not too many programs are running that as their base defensive set, so would be interesting if we brought it a new DC if that would remain the case. Switching to a 4-3 wouldn't be too difficult, I'm just not sure we have the LB depth to make it work

I am not condoning any kind of a switch. I just want to point out that next year we will have a Junior Jake Hansen, transfer Milo Efler. 2nd tiers of soph Kahlen Tolsen and true freshman Shammond Cooper. That's "decent" LB depth. Not great or good, but improved

Did I miss a commitment?
