Agreed. He "got away" with that one a minute earlier. It may have played into his getting called for the first of the double technical. He wasn't T'd up on that play.

Refs often call double techs when chippy things are getting out of hand between players. Not sure how you can defend what Belo did.He wasn't T'd up on that play.

Nobody likes it when their gf gets hotter after the breakup.
Times likes this I wish for a dislike buttonThe ref that tossed him is the same one that gave RJ his T in the tournament.
I dunno about the rest of ‘em but Ali with an “I” still looks pretty good 40 years later. You wouldn't think it but it's not great when they get worse either (think Hamlin or Payne). That actually happened to me once and I almost had to send her an anonymous makeover. Couldn't have her walking around town like that telling people we used to date.
That doesn't excuse Belos reaction BUT that ref does suck goose eggs. The ref that tossed him is the same one that gave RJ his T in the tournament.
The ref gave him a double ejection. That doesn't excuse Belos reaction BUT that ref does suck goose eggs.
Maybe I am misremembering but didn’t Belo get into some trouble with that ref before the tournament game where RJ got the tech, for not wearing the proper clothing (or something like that)? The ref gave him a double ejection.

I was thinking the same thing, but not sure.Maybe I am misremembering but didn’t Belo get into some trouble with that ref before the tournament game where RJ got the tech, for not wearing the proper clothing (or something like that)?
It definitely happened, if I recall correctly because of his compression leggings being uneven or some nonsense, but I don't recall if it was the same ref.Maybe I am misremembering but didn’t Belo get into some trouble with that ref before the tournament game where RJ got the tech, for not wearing the proper clothing (or something like that)?
Podz looked rushed a lot on offense during the parts I caught. Also was not active on defense. His man beat him a lot with little resistance or anticipation from podz. Granted a watch the whole game but it's kinda what I expected. Wish him well stillAlso as someone else pointed out, Gonzaga isn't very good defensively either (78th in AdjD). I believe that would be last (or close to it) in our conference. For reference's sake, Nebraska is 50th.
Well we “needed” his scholarship for Clark.I have the impression that the staff did not try all that hard to get Podz to stay once he entered the portal. Am I wrong?
Not an insider.
I know several were wanting to know how Podz would do against tougher competition. I watched a chunk of the first half last night between Santa Clara and Gonzaga.
Podz was stifled in the first half and got 4 points I think.
Looks like he got going a bit more in the 2nd half. (Not sure if it was all garbage time points or when the game could still have been won)
Final line: 14 pts, 4-14 shooting, and 3-8 from deep
In their first game against the Zags (home game) Podz line was: 17 pts, 7-14 shooting, 1-2 from deep
I thought Podz was very active on both ends - way more than l remember from last year. He did frequently get beat off the dribble, sometimes with ease. Slow feet or slow reaction, I don’t know which.Podz looked rushed a lot on offense during the parts I caught. Also was not active on defense. His man beat him a lot with little resistance or anticipation from podz. Granted a watch the whole game but it's kinda what I expected. Wish him well still
He's always proven he can coach with the best of them....in the MAC.John Groce and the Akron Zips are on ESPNU right now. Zips 8-1 in conference. Undefeated at home.
Any Canadian players on Akron? He's always proven he can coach with the best of them....in the MAC.
Dustin Ford sighting!
I wouldn't mind facing a former Illini coach.I think it's safe to say that, barring conference tournament runs, Jacob Grandison is the only former Illini whose team will make the NCAA Tournament.
Jacob Grandison (Duke) 17-6 (8-5)
Adam Miller (LSU) 12-11 (1-9)
Andre Curbelo (St. John's) 14-11 (4-10)
Tevian Jones (Souther Utah). 16-8 (4-6)
Brandin Podziemski (Santa Clara) 17-8 (5-5)
BBV (South Carolina). 8-16 (1-10)
Jermaine Hamlin - (EIU) 7-18, (3-9)
Omar Payne (Jacksonville) 12-11 (5-7)
Unless Jalen Coleman-Lands is out there secretly trying to win another natty, I'd say our prospects of facing a former Illini in the tourny are pretty slim.
