Lucas makes the offense run..if he was only an offensive threat. Finke played well...took the shots he needed to take for the most part.

Only surprise is Sparty shooting 79%. Every other thing in this game pretty much expected. Illini working super hard on defense and letting it fly without thinking too much on offense. The only disappointment for me was DW missing the front end of the bonus with a total brick. Simply cannot happen.

This game is winnable if effort is sustainable. Sparty can't shoot that percentage again if you locked them in the gym alone in the second half.

I just hope these kids enjoy playing this way and playing with each other. They are one player away from being a "contenda".

NCAA Basketball themes that don't apply to us for some reason:
Home Team gets most of the calls - Hasn't happened yet this year
Play aggressive, they won't call all of the fouls - Not only do they call every foul, we get called for a few phantom calls every game

If AJ isn't going to take open looks, he might as well not be on the floor... Everyone complains that he isn't getting enough shots, but they are there for him to take tonight. He just won't shoot. Pretty sure that isn't coming from the bench. Come on AJ, shoot the ball.

Gotta like the effort....MSU with 15 TO's....need to convert more of those into points....got to stay close...we don't have the offensive firepower to come back from a very big deficient

I'm honestly baffled by this:

Our defensive tenacity has caused 15 turnovers in on half and yet has allowed 78% from the field. How's that possible?!

Really liking Finke confidence this game. He is the third scorer we need consistently. Hoping Trent Frazier/Mark Smith provide a spark in beginning of second half scoring similar to the start.

Think the future of our guards is great. Still think Tejon can be a valuable back-up. Damonte is being a defensive force today, he is a gamer. His hops haven't completely returned.

Still way too much fake shots before they actually do something with the ball. BU still has not rid them of those bad habits yet.

I am curious to know what Underwood told them in their team meeting leading up to this game.

Down 7 with Leron and Trent sitting extended minutes. MSU shooting percentage comes back to earth and we've got a chance to take this down to the final possession.

Not that surprising to me. We have good guard play on defense, but not strong inside. Once they break through inside, easy shots galore. Same problem we've been having all year.

Nonetheless, I am heartened with the energy they're playing with. A lot of us on the boards considered the Wisconsin game a back breaker - but the team evidently hasn't, and I'm proud of their tenacity in that.

I don't know if we'll win the game. But I'm impressed with their energy. And I'm also impressed with TJL's contributions. Hopefully we can stop with the cliche "he gawn" posts for a while.

Agree - AJ passes up an open 3, to force one a couple plays later from the corner and gets it blocked, gets called for moving screen when Fink hits a 3 to get it waived off. He is not helping the cause tonight or for that matter in BIG play period

So, the big question for the second half is if we can keep up the intensity of the first half, or are we going to get lazy.

Again, don't know why he took Kipper out at the end of the first half when Kipper looked like he was going all out. Typical Illini coaching mis-decisions from way back in the Lou Doo days. Somebody gets hot or makes a big play, and all of a sudden, they are on the bench. Never understood that coaching philosophy.

I was very happy to see TJL as the first player off the bench. I guess he was still suspended somehow in Madison.

curious call to play zone after forcing so many turnovers playing man D....curious

also staying close with Trent and Leron out for a long time

I didn't mind it. Coaching tactic figuring that Izzo would run a play with man and the zone would negate it...we just didn't execute.

Now it's all about the half time adjustments. How are we doing so far this season?
