I believe this is going to be the new standard. The ACC just approved or is going to approve a 20 game conference schedule. This means teams have the opportunity for more wins and more wins generally mean more NCAA bids.

A chance at more quality wins. The total number of games stays the same. More conference games means less non-conference games. The hope is a stronger schedule with less cupcakes.

Actually, assuming that the games going away are cupcake games, then likely fewer wins. I suppose some teams though will steer away from getting another "quality team" or two, to assure a higher victory total.

Is there an overall cap on total games allowed? Or is it more of a timing issue that prevents us from playing some of our "cupcake" games earlier in the year

There is a cap, it used to be that certain tourneys would count as only 1 game, I don't know if that is still true.

I'd hate to be a mid-major in the future trying to schedule P5 teams to boost their RPI.

We don't want to be left behind, P5 basketball will push to have elites stay there. B1G will take 20 games conference, and go from there. Postseason basketball will have a bigger group in tournament anyway, mid-majors will be playing catch up.;)

Completely agree. It will be great for fans of P5 teams but will definitely eliminate some matchups with mid majors. Between the boost in schedule strength from more conference games and less non-conference games available, there will be less games scheduled with mid-majors.

Ok seriously, it's almost September. Why isn't Alstork on campus or telling us when he will be?

Just now, I looked at the dates of the schedule for the first time. How are they going to get any meaningful practice in, once the season starts? 15 games in 50 days, including 2 games sandwiching Thanksgiving (pardon the pun), finals and Christmas in 2017. Also, Friday night against the kitties and Sunday hosting Maryland. At least Allstate is only like 2 hours or so from campus. It is worse for Maryland, Purdue at home Friday, then a trip to Champaign with only a day between. 2018 is a little better with 16 games in 55 days. I know that finishing a week early has a lot to do with this.

Not to say they are must wins, but sure would be nice to win 1st 2 B1G games. Lot of games in December.

Anybody know the NCAA regulations for practice time/weight room time/individual time, etc. for the weeks before practice starts?

This is like Derrick Rose s***. When was the last time the Illini had a PG who could dunk like that?

2017 Derrick Rose, possibly.

Not saying TF's dunk wasn't an awesome improvement but I think maybe you've forgotten how crazy explosive Rose was from college until his knee actually blew apart.

Who cares about Rose? He snubbed us

Yes. Huge difference between doing it in isolation and doing it in a game with people defending you.

That said, I'm pleased with what I see.

Something I learned today that you should know. New #illini freshman forward Matic Vesel's name is pronounced: mah-TEETS vuh-SEAL

Lets not go overboard, DRose was probably the fastest player court to court in the NBA and had a ridiculous vertical prior to the injuries. Nice to see Frazier improving his hops.

The encouraging thing to me is that Trent wasn't necessarily known for his jumping ability prior to arriving at Illinois (speed/quickness were considered his strength). It appears working with Fletch has taken him from average or slightly above average point guard jumping ability to what appears to be a strength now. Impressive hops for his height.
