I see articles like the following every once in a while but this is the first that I have seen that mentions Illinois. A look at Illinois Mens Basketball from another school's standpoint. Not particularly insightful but I think respectful.
"Here’s what Penn State men’s basketball can expect from Illinois, Purdue and Michigan this season"

...Smith was the No. 5-ranked player in Illinois...
In the future I hope the designers of the basketball poster will go back to include the whole team. It's nice to be able to look back in the future and see who was on the team in 2017. I've been collecting them since the early 80's.
I like it when guys say this stuff. Typically you get the answer that they are just taking it one game at a time. Fuel for the rivalry.
Regardless, what are the chances he uses this to get focused and perform at a higher level vs. getting excited and fouling himself to the bench?

Had 7 fouls in 13 minutes against Kansas. Pretty likely.
Thanks for sharing, jmilt. I enjoy seeing opponents' take on our team.
From the article:
Clearly the author doesn't know much of anything beyond what he or she discovered in a quick google search. Choosing the 247 ranking as the defining description of Mark Smith is just goofy, considering he had the best offer list of any Illinois kid and won Mr. Basketball. He's clearly the top guard from Illinois this year and possibly the top prospect, although Tilmon is hard to beat as a prospect.
Love reading this stuff. I hope McColley posts one of these every day.Basketball practice 10-23-17

I'd take it as a good thing. We've heard a lot of glowing things about Mr. Smith. The lack of Trent has me concerned since he did not play on Sunday (per the board).where's Mark Smith in these articles? Is it a good or bad thing he's not mentioned???? Worries me
These reports are written like a intro to a book.. where's Mark Smith in these articles? Is it a good or bad thing he's not mentioned???? Worries me
Well BU indirectly compared him to Jason Kidd, so there's that...Right there have been two reports from practice and o mention of Smith
This is inform for a potential team leader/scorer high contributor for this team this season....not a word about his progression.

Underwood’s staff learned a lot about their team Sunday. Most of it is intangible, and can’t be translated into data. Sure, they kept track of missed shots. They tracked rebounding. They even know how many times the lads missed an opportunity to set a screen.
Tilmon said in an interview he "won't soon forget what illini fans said to him after he committed to Mizzou" and that he "can't wait for our game"

Tillmon isn't as talented as Cliff Alexander or Eddy Curry, but they all share similar poor decision making. I don't see Tillmon in the NBA, possibly some lower division bball elsewhere. I just don't see the drive or maturity to take his game to the next level.
the Underwood boy
I can't quite put my finger on why, but this terminology made laugh.
