Looks like Jontay Porter is returning to Mizzou. Could make the bragging rights a bit more interesting.

Their big men are going to kill us and our guards are going to run circles around theirs. Should be a fun game. :illinois:

Have heard several times that big men aren't ready until upper class men unless 5*.
Examples:

Iowa. L. Garza. 23m. 12.4 ppg
Mary. B Fernando 22.4 m 10.3 ppg
OSU. K Wesson. 20.7 m. 10.2 ppg

These guys were all 4* and pretty effective as freshmen in the BIG. Evidently just not possible at UI.

Ethan Happ returning to Wisky. Will eat us alive. Again.
Tyler Cook also returning to Iowa.

All the returning guys make me feel like we could be in the bottom tier for another season. :(

Nice to have returning guys that make programs continue on, soon we will have that luxury. I guess many folks forget how in years past, we were the ones striking fear in the opponents with our returning players. Once we get quality players year after year , we will have the guys that B1G teams won't want to play against. Trust in the system and the staff.;):illinois:

Remember when we were in the Top 25 all the time, and had like a 95-5 record at home for a long stretch, and regularly beat ranked teams, and finished near the very top of the league for like multiple years in a row and went to the tournament consistently... You know, like 15 or 20 years ago, before some of our upcoming recruits were born...

I appreciate the optimism some have, but i just dont see it with the tough schedule we have this year. That's barring a late addition like a Cunningham. Considering the track record the last month I'm not getting my hopes up again.

I’m super pumped about the non conference schedule, Underwood keeping his promise about not shying away from good competition. The people complaining about this schedule are the same people that complain about playing weak competition. #MIGA

Any knowledge if we play at the UC again this year and if so, against who?

How does the competition Alan Griffin played vs T Jones's competition? I keep looking at the 9.9 rebounds per game and wonder if we are underestimating his athletic abilities. His stats are impressive and yet most of us do not expect a lot from him. Similar to TF last year. This class will be interesting.

Griffin’s was higher. Played against Cole Anthony, Kofi Cockburn, Moses Brown and others. He won’t average 9 or 10 boards per game in the NCAA but he played and produced against multiple MCDAA caliber players.

Looking forward to improving upon this (last place in dunks) with our new athletes:

I think this speaks volumes to both our lack of height and athleticism. I predict our dunks and blocks will increase by 20% this year and probably another 20% the following year.

Hate to see any of our players leave, but we just can't compete in the BIG without both of those attributes (height, athletes). Roster looks much more balance IMHO.

Going to 20 conference games, this should be about it for noncon games, maybe another couple? What did we have 13 noncon games last year with 18 conference games? That list gives us 9 noncon. Maybe a couple of more, I would guess.

Does anyone know the limit on number of reg season games a team can play?

Not sure who this guy is, but he was covering this all-star game that Griffin was playing in.

A bit of a delay here, but looks like the @fwcc2018 Boys' National Game is about to begin.

After giving up a tough layup, Illinois commit Alan Griffin (Stepinac, NY) comes back with a slick crossover and finish. Following a defensive stop, he drops an insane dribble move that gets the whole gym to its feet. Wow.

AT THE HALF: White Team 60, Blue Team 51 (@fwcc2018 Boys' National Game).Different tone 2Q. My standouts so far:Naz Reid (LSU)Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall)Alan Griffin (Illinois)Franck Kepnang (2021/Macduffie Prep, Mass.)Dashawn Davis (2019/Our Savior Lutheran, NY)

Eugene Rapay‏ @erapay5 19h19 hours ago Alan Griffin just hit one of the hottest stepback fadeaway three I've ever seen. The way the Stepinac product/Illinois recruit is able to shoot off the dribble and score in volumes...makes me wonder how he didn't get more love on the recruiting scene. Fighting Illini have a GEM

Frankie Williams Charity Classic notebook

Alan Griffin (2018/Archbishop Stepinac/White Plains, NY): Griffin's stock was on the rise
throughout an impressive senior season with the Crusaders, one that culminated in the school's first-ever state federation title. A future member of the Illinois Fighting Illini, Griffin will look to take his ability as a talented scorer to the Midwest. Griffin is capable of scoring in a variety of ways -- catch-and-shoot, attacking the basket, pulling up off the dribble, and he certainly has the tools to do it. He is a quick, agile player--one that has great ball-handling, and can possibly be a game-changer when he gets hot. He can score at a high rate and is dangerous once he gets into a rhythm. Basketball runs in his DNA, as his father, Adrian, played at Seton Hall for four years and is currently an assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder. His two siblings, Adrian Jr. and Aubrey, are also high school standouts.
